Came for the famous pasta but wasn’t that impressed especially since portions were small. The burrata was the best. Steak was not bad. Desserts were terrible though – worse (deconstructed or not) tiramisu I’ve ever had. Service was not attentive enough and took forever to get anyone’s attention.
fantastic handmade pasta, love the one with truffles. Dont forget to leave room for the desserts. If you like to drink, their sat and sun brunch offer free flow of house wine for 2 hours
Delicious fresh pastas, great place for genuine Italian!
Submitted what we thought was a confirmed booking via their online website (suggested times pop up on their website which indicates there’s availability). Arrived at the restaurant and the waitress rudely informs us that it’s only a “booking request” which isn’t confirmed.
“Okay, so are there tables available?” we asked, eyeing the half empty restaurant.
The rude waitress then hands over two “brunch menus” and asks us to take a look to see if we are okay with them. We noticed it’s a free flowing brunch (which is cool) but we aren’t in the mood for alcohol. We ask the rude waitress if there are non-alcoholic options.
“Sorry, if you don’t drink, you still have to pay the HK$400,” the waitress brusquely replied. We then noticed the HK$400 doesn’t include a main dish but only included alcohol, Parma ham and 1-2 choices of dessert. If we wanted to add a main, that’s an extra HK$200 out of your pocket.
To sum up, (1) rude service, (2) only caters to people who drink and not inclusive whatsoever, (3) HK$600 for a brunch (in Sai Ying Pun) is not a good deal. My gf likes how their Parma ham looks so maybe we will give them another shot – hence the two stars and not just one.
i had a wonderful experience dining here! burrata was perfect, pasta were lovely, service was fantastic!
Great self made pasta. Loved the one with truffles. For starters don’t forget to try the squid salad. For mains go with the Fassona Rib. One of the best ribs in Hong Kong. To end the night the Tiramisu dessert is a must try.
Ambiance was good as it was not too noisy and seating was comfortable. Staff was attentive and also suggested for us to wait for the ribs instead of ordering more.
LucAle is such a popular place where I find the first round dining is a bit too short. For a party of four, we started with two appetisers. Got two pastas and a steak for main. The wine menu is also quite nice, always love to explore a restaurant’s selection.
Very nice Burrata “Deliziosa” from Lucale. Different from most dense burrata, this Deliziosa burrata is light creamy and have this vanilla taste. Match so well with the sweet cherry tomato.
LucAle’s Shovel. This cold cut platter is amazingly appetising, my friends couldn’t even wait for me to take a photo of it. The chef was so nice in explaining each type of ham and salamis. There are total six variety and paired nicely with the pickled pearl onions. Felt so happy starting our night digging into this.
Cappelletti Di Bolognese Bianca, Crema Di Parmigiano D.O.P. 24 Mesi E Crumble Di Parmigiano 18 Mesi. Home made cappelletti with meat and ricotta filling. The simple carrot and celery made this not overly heavy. A homie little hat pasta dish.
Chitarrino Al Tartufo Nero, Crema Di Pecorino Di Pienza E Briciole Di Pane Alle Noci. This homemade Chitarra Style spaghetti with black truffle, Pienza Pecorino cheese and walnut crumbs. This spaghetti is so creamy and rich. Mouthful flavour from the cheese and walnut crumbles. It looks simple but the flavour is amazing. It is a bit rich, so better to share.
Happy feasting the 1kg of top quality steak. When you are with a group of great friends, of cause the best is to share. Fassona Rib Steak served with oven roasted potatoes and eggplants plus this not too creamy cream spinach.
Fantastic Italian food. Thank you guys, we definitely enjoyed it. Cu soon again.
burratta is an appointment destination. great service and great food
Came back for their pasta and they didn’t disappoint! The only decision I regretted was eating too much bread which was so tasty with their olive oil so I was too full for the third pasta dish 😅 …
Went there for brunch with free flow of alcohol. Food was okay, a bit overpriced, but the service was very very disappointing. I had to ask two waitresses for some olive oil 3 times, both of them seemed to forget about it completely. I had to constantly tried to get their attention. Eventually I got the olive oil after almost 15 mins. The next table then made the same request, without asking if we have finished with the olive oil, the waitress just took it from us and gave it to the next table. There was no interaction or anything between the waitress and us, they didn’t
even bother asking if we enjoyed the food. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.
Rather mediocre experience on a Friday night..
Food was overall OK, appetisers (salmon and beef tartare) were better than the pastas (which were small for their prices). Bread basket was cold and not great.
Restaurant looked kind of dowdy. The waitstaff didn’t look very happy and our server was pretty pushy about upselling the truffle menu/dessert/alcohol.
We were in and out in less than 40 minutes, lol. Felt disappointed as we were expecting something better. Definitely not date night material.
Very good food, especially the lamb rack, tortellini and buratta. Very cosy family style restraunt.
Excellent food and great service hidden behind the new soho residential neighbour. Definitely worth a visit.
Best Italian restaurant in town.
A very impressive dinner! Yummy yummy!!! Staff are very friendly too!
Food is absolutely delicious. The appetizers were creative and innovative, the pappardelle white bolognese is gorgeous. The staff are friendly, accommodating, and I could not have expected better.
Disappointing 2nd experience, inconsistent policies and bad vibes. Great review has been revised.
Visited in early August for the first time, in the dead of Hong Kong’s restaurant COVID era (2pax table restriction, all restaurants 6pm close) for brunch at this Italian restaurant in SYP at the back of Potato Head. Left a raging review here of how generous the food was and how I loved the lemon creme. I believe in paying good tribute to good natured restaurants that deserve support as I often review here and in other platforms.
After a relatively good experience, I took the most important VIP in my life (hi mom) here again yesterday for the same brunch expecting similar experiences. As you would at a second visit in less than 4 weeks.
The ham and burrata, the star of their brunch, had lost its smooth texture and the luscious rich taste compared to last time. I saw their staff had to wait for several plates of ham and cold cuts to be finished cutting before serving to the tables in one go. Similar to last time, we were given one plate of ham/burrata, one of cold cuts, and some cheese and tomato, along with 3 salads. We ordered the spaghetti and lamb chop add-on on top of their $380 lunch, it was okay. And my reviews usually stop here. However.
Similar to last time, there was too much food and we asked for the leftovers to be taken away. The waitress told me that it was their policy not to allow appetizers to be packed. Genuinely surprised, I said that I was here a few weeks ago and packed our mains and appetizers that I didn’t finish home, and that there was no such policy then, and reason to throw out food that was part of our brunch. Giving no explanation, she just blurted that it was their restaurant policy and packed our mains, and took away our half unfinished burrata, ham and cold cuts without returning them.
No one wants to make a scene and I intended to reflect the experience in the review I am writing. Their manager/owner then casually passed by and asked if the food was okay. When we reflected our experience to him, he said that he imposed this policy because people wasted food and kept asking for refills. I told them that we were not aware that appetizers could be refilled and was only given one plate and also, that they had packed all of our food away during my first visit. Then he said that their restaurant was about to change the “refill” policy too because of wastage. All this about wasting food didn’t make sense but I didn’t care about their policy and repeated that they had packed our food before and didn’t have such policy. He acted surprised and said that his staff should not have done that last time but that it was their policy.
He then said that the next time I came, I should go to him, he would always be here, and IF I had only one plate of ham, he would let me take it away. How condescending and insulting. Firstly, to think that I would revisit given the experience, but secondly, that their customer would have to point to a staff and an old promise in order to take away food that they paid for. Of course he didn’t identify himself.
He then grew tired of the conversation and left to tell his staff right behind me that the policy was to be imposed.
I wasn’t what “wastage” he was so upset about, I guess it was patrons “wasting” his food by asking for ham refills, but we were never aware and did not ask: the restaurant was small enough for the staff to know, at least the one that waited our table. Our plates of ham and cold cuts which they threw away was duly wasted was all I knew.
The experience showed me that and even if they were offering an all-you-can-eat brunch, they were not generous to mention that to their customers and deliberately played it down to maintain their costs. Whatever, all they had to do was to say that we had mistaken that the brunch was not buffet style, and so, understandably, buffet food could not be taken away. But the way that their staff and later that man handled the whole situation was embarrassing and petty and I felt compelled to give my review.
Even sitting in the rain was fun. Fantastic wine list and excellent food. Service was exemplary.
Pastas were great and service excellent
The waitress kept reminding us too many times that our table was due back by 8pm. One friendly reminder at the beginning and one near the end would have been more than fine. We felt extremely rushed the whole time and it made it rather uncomfortable.
The food presented well, but frankly I’ve had better tasting food for a little bit less.
Food was amazing, service was good too. Extensive Italian wine list.
We were a bit worried after reading the negative reviews. After been to LucAle, I honestly don’t see why the bad reviews are even there. The service is what one would expect of a restaurant of similar tier. The food on the other hand… was amazing. The pasta especially. I would definitely come back here again, for the pasta of this quality is tough to find in Hong Kong. Easily 6 out of 5 star. 😂
Probably one of the worst brunch deals in Hong Kong at the moment. Came on a weekday with a friend and they only had a set menu for 380 dollars. I wasn’t drinking but there was no option to not pay for the free flow Prosecco. Even if you were not drinking you had to pay for alcohol. There was no main included, you had to order that separately and at extra cost to the set menu, otherwise there were three tiny salads, burrata and cold cuts. When we asked to get the pasta leftovers to go, they wouldn’t let us, as with the brunch menu you are not allowed to bring the food home with you.
The service was pretty bad, and our waitress unfriendly and unhelpful. My friend kept having to go find her so she could fill her Prosecco glass and we had to keep asking for the food to come and we were made to feel as an inconvenience to her.
The food is okay but not worth the price, bad service and lack of flexibility.
The steak is amazing- often times I’m in the mood for steak and I’m usually left less than impressed in Hong Kong . Lucale really does it well. The pasta is also phenomenal but don’t need to mention this we it’s a given !
4/5
Another great place for pasta in town! So good, no words! Other dishes are not as surprise, homey, warm delicious as the PASTA!
Went for brunch, free flow for wine only, not food and charging HKD28 per head for water, no tap water offered! Food was good, the service was really unfriendly.
Excellent service. Love the wine list which offers very minimal mark up. Good value for money!
Yummy Italian fare, the Barrata and Parma Ham is a must try, their pasta are also fantastic. If you don’t eat carbs, their lamb chops and the Fish baked in “paper” is also very good. The Tiramisu is so delicious we ordered 2! Must try if you love Italian cuisine!
I have been several time in Lucale for drinks and especially for dinner, and had never disappointed, it only went better and better, I’m Italian and that is what an Italian restaurant should be, the fish are incredibly delicious and the ingridient that they have are amazing. Wish I knew where they get it from. The ambience make you feel like home, and you can ask for the chefs table and meet Luca and Alessandro that are so kind and ready to please you.
Amazing place that it’s a must visit.
Beautiful pasta and great wine. Lively atmosphere and waiting staff. Thanks
Very legit Italian food. Good price for free flow brunch. Nice environment.
Overall not a bad experience but it’s rather rush with a 2 hr strict return table policy and there’s not enough time for desserts. Food is great but portion is rather generous. I’d suggest to go in a group of at least four people to share the dish. Around HKD$800/head for three courses to share.
Mixed bag tonight for dinner. The food itself was good, fresh prosciutto and burrata, pasta was good. Cod was a bit meh. But no one told us the entrees were for 2 so we ended up with too much food. I couldn’t order a drink for the first 20 minutes, and then had to ask for a wine list by the glass, sure there’s 100 plus wines by the bottle some up to 9000 hkd. Unnecessary. If you don’t like booze it’s coke and lemonade. We had to have free flow water, but no one ever refilled the first bottle. We sat down at 8.15, and were last called at 9.30, meaning we had barely finished mains and we had to pick desert or a last drink and hustled out.
quite a poor experience for brunch today… First, I was expecting the unlimited cold cut from the menu (which was mentioned in the website and a lot of blogger post) but turn out I need to pay another $120 per dish for the second round of cold cut… Secondly, the staff was very unfriendly and are not keen to help but chatting by themselves. While I was ‘enjoying’ the free flow, the staff are quite passive and will just refill your glass when u request to do so …
I guess it really not worth the value of Hkd 380 for brunch on 1 round of cold cut, the small dish of salad and freeflow of wine (but the staff is not that keen on refilling your glass… ). If you want the main, u will at least need to add another hundreds for that..
Frankly speaking, this is quite disappointing and I guess there are much better brunch options in the town…
True and genuine Italian food with outstanding quality ingredients
Food is still nice but the standard of customer service is sharply going down every time I visit for brunch, as well as the quantity of the food. If you decide to visit with a large group, better skip this place.
Chefs Alessandro and Luca serve up the best italian food ive had in a long time in a really fun open kitchen environment with a great bar area too
Worst service. We know we were told to finish dinner in 2 hours but staff forced us to pay and leave, at least three times, after 80 minutes, Even no guests are waiting and there are 5 empty tables.
Very good food and wine.
Price a bit high.
if the culinary dining experience were a journey Lucale offers the best tour through the roads of the most exquisite and sophisticated flavors that only great chefs can guide us, for me and my friend it become definitely the best restaurant choice in hk
Delicious food and great service. Was worried about the negative reviews about service, but we found them to be very attentive and helpful. Everything was delicious. The parma ham, pumpkin ravioli and rib was excellent. Tiramisu is slightly different to the typical style and was also very good (my friend said it’s the best he’s had in HK).
We had been to Lucale 4 times, food and service are great. Unfortunately, I post 2 stars here due to our last booking. We asked them to call us if there’s a regular table become available. Not only they didn’t call us back, We found out 2 hrs before dinner there’s a table, in order to have that table, we have to spend $500/person. Out of principle, this a left a bitter taste in my mouth. It is impossible to spend less than $500/person(F+B) in most dinning outlets in Hkg. This is not some special table no some public holiday. We uber back and for from Clearwater bay to there because we like your food. . Even hotels and restaurants do not imposed that on their reservation. We all suffered under this pandemic, when the hk govt lifted restrictions, we all can be a little humble here. Restaurants get to make their living, we get to enjoy eating out again. There is no need for that.
餐廳氣氛好舒服,麵條軟硬度拿捏得非常好,牛扒烹調剛剛好,粉紅不滲血。配搭意大利紅酒,一頓完美的晚餐!
Solid pasta and modern Italian. Tad pricey.
Definitely the place to go if you wanna taste the real Italian taste,
Burrata is fresh arrived from Italy and the Homemade pasta is unbelievable.
Must try … Home made Tiramisu’.
Went to the free flow brunch today. Ambience is pretty good but the food and drink are quite bad. It’s like they have too many white and red inventories and use this free flow to consume. By the way, only drinks and bread are “free flow” can’t refill the food…….even the starter salads……500 per head (we ordered some pasta because the non refillable free flow dishes are just not enough for us)
All around great. Burrata was some of the best I’ve had. Valentine’s Day special wasn’t cheap but good overall value. It’s also now our go-to Tiramisu place.
Service was not great but the food was worth the wait!
