The manager Pak is an incredible professional and treated us so well. Food was delicious and every dish was amazing, can’t wait to go back!!! Also special kudos to Kabita and Madu who were exceptional and super hospitable.
A great place to enjoy weekend lunch. Staff members are friendly and the food is delicious! Definitely recommend their wagyu beef sando and the king salmon bento box is another excellent choice.
Food is overpriced and underwhelming. Get your Japanese fix elsewhere.
Best Classic Japanese izakaya in Hong Kong, food is delicious, strongly recommend the sea urchin maki roll and sando sandwich – what an experience!!! The staff are very welcoming, Pak, Madu and Kabita will make you feel part of the family.
Fantastic restaurant! Pak is the best host in Hong Kong & chef Michel is on fire right now!
The food is amazing, incredibly tasty but the manager Pak with his outstanding welcoming personality makes sure you are well taken care.
Located on the busy restaurant packed High Street in Sai Ying Pun, Katsumoto heralds as a modern take to the traditional Izakaya style Japanese restaurant. Izakaya is loosely defined as an “informal Japanese bar that serves alcohol and snacks. Our visit to this hidden gem was early on a Saturday, so we were the first patrons. The staff were friendly and professional, adhering to the governement regulations for Covid-19 (eg, sanitising, LeaveHomeSafe tracking, mandatory masks and temperature checks.
In terms of food, the signature dish would be their sando (sandwiches). Not a fan of eating “sandwiches” at a Japanese restaurant? Fear not, as they also serve sushi, yakitori-style dishes and other Japanese dishes with a Western twist.
We ordered from their lunch set menu, opting for the Deviled Egg Sando and Chicken Karaage Waffle. For sides, we also tried one of the Tsukune skewers. The Tsukune was amazing, with the slightly sweet yakitori sauce and raw quail (i think) egg to dip into. Our favourite was the Chicken Karaage Waffle, which is a play on the American southern fried chicken and waffles with syrup.
Admittedly, a fair review of this restaurant would’ve required us to try the Wagyu Sando, but I guess we will have to come back another time to try that.
Authentic kitchen nightmares experience 🙂 !
Totally worth it for the set menu and the sandos. The sando is not something I would have ever gone for but I’m so happy I did because it was absolutely incredible. Though the restaurant is very small and somewhat cramped, it didn’t get in the way of the dining experience and I was extremely impressed with the quality of food and flavours. Will definitely be returning!
Ordered their lunch set. It was extremely salty for a poke bowl. Look how the rice is soaked in sauce. Disgusting.
Food is very good. But price tag is also high
Been to this restaurant a few times. A very chilled and hip dining place. Friendly staff, great service and excellent food. A must try in the neighborhood.
Great dining experience. Most Izakayas in HK are super expensive but average in taste. While this is pricey, it really does warrant the cost. Incredible food the whole way through, matching the great service and ambience. Great for an after work beer and snack, a date night, or a group gathering. Loved the shishito peppers and the tuna tartar.
All dishes prepared with care, a fantastic owner and great atmosphere to cap it off.
We would be back to have the tsukune, tuna tartare and corn tempura again!
Their lunch deals are good value with generous salad and piping hot miso soup. We tried poke salmon avocado and soba with shrimp tempura 👍 Had to order extra edamame on the side as shrimp was kinda small. Will order more next time as plenty of appetizing dishes to choose from..❤️ …
Food was good quality but 4 stars instead of 5 for it’s price, very overpriced
Not authentic at all, and pricey for what it is. Server was nice but that’s about it

Omni Pork Sando $158
Spicy Tuna Sushi Roll $158
Corn Tempura $148
Chicken Karaage $98

High Street houses plenty of cute little restaurants and cafes, and we wandered into a vibrant Japanese eatery Katsumoto this time. The restaurant offers a vast variety of Japanese delicacies, including rolls, ramen, and small bites. Expect your meal here to be a fusion experience with a Western flair.
Wagyu Sando ($298)
Thick and juicy wagyu, fluffy and lightly toasted bread, sauce with just the right amount of tang
Soft shell crab roll ($158)
A combination that could never go wrong. Freshly fried soft shell crab was the key
Spicy Tuna Roll ($158)
Addicting sauce, could be further elevated with some extra condiments like crispy tempura bits
Deep Fried Squid
Freshly fried, hot and crispy
Pork Ramen ($98)
Broth was rather bland, slightly underwhelming comparatively

📍Address: G/F, 70 High Street, Western District
Katsumoto is located just atop SYP Exit B along a line of nice restaurants. With its eye catching exterior, you definitely won’t miss this place!
The first thing that struck us here was the amazing decorations. You can tell that the owners put in a lot of heart to craft the theme and create a unique dining experience! The menu was comprehensive – there was a strong hint of fusion influence while for those looking to wind down after a long day at work, you’d be pleased with their extensive list of drinks options!
STARTERS: CHEESEBURGER ROLL
We started the night with some cheeseburger roll. This was extremely unique. They rolled minced beef together with smoked cheese, before frying them together. This result in a great variety of flavours and textures in one bite – the crispy exterior, the creamy and salty smoked cheese, the chewy and fresh beef!
MAINS: WAGYU SANDO
The one that we were looking forward to! It was my first sando experience, and I was definitely not disappointed here! The steak was cooked to perfect medium rare and was a very generous thick cut. The beef was lightly seasoned and for good reasons, given the delicious tonkatsu sauce. The milk bread was well sauced but not soggy. A great first experience!
SUSHI: CALIFORNIA MAKI ROLL
California rolls tend to be taken for granted these days given how every restaurant seemingly serve a version of it. Hence, it is worth shouting out that Katsumoto’s version was very satisfying! I enjoyed the thick slices of fresh avocado while the shrimp had a good bite to it!
BENTO: BEEF STEAK SET
For those who are undecided on what to eat, the bento set is a good place to start! You get a generous portion of edamame, a hot miso soup, potato salad, an assortment of hosomaki and a protein of your choice! In this case, we picked the beef steak.
The lunch meal is very delicious, a lot of food, also great for free flow brunches! The wagyu sandwich is one of the top dishes!

Wagyu

⠀
▪️Wagyu Sando $298
▪️Tsukune (chicken meatball) $48
▪️Corn Tempera $148
▪️Tuna Tataki $188
▪️Soft Shell Crab Sushi Roll $158
▪️Pork belly $38
🍾 FANTINEL PROSECCO EXTRA DRY DOC $385/bottle
Great sushi and Monday night is 50% off for 2nd order
