Tasty food and great service.
Instagrammable tasting area with high ceilings, plush carpeting and outstanding and unpretentious service. Traditional dining area dark and a bit crowded. Food wise, Signature Angel hair with caviar is a delight, rest of the menu shows Louise roots but comes up a bit short.

Bâtard, name taken simultaneously from the famous Burgundy Grand Cru vineyard “Bâtard-Montrachet” and the oblong French bread, is a newly opened French bistro in Sai Ying Pun. The casual diner is hidden inside the bright and spacious wine shop “The Fine Wine Experience”, a design that speaks for the restaurant’s “wine to dine” concept, as guests can only drink wine ordered through this shop (corkage is waived, but there is a 10% service charge). Servers are friendly, helpful and attentive. Highly recommend the crispy Beef Tartare Cannelloni, the crunchy Iberico Pork Sando ($190), the refreshing “Cold Angel Hair, Kristal Caviar, Kombu” ($390), and the flavorful “Bâtard’s Signature Roast Chicken, warm Pilaf Rice” ($880, must be pre-ordered at least 24-hr in advance).
35€ for a glass of Chablis, I’ve never seen that, even if it was from Raveneau. Too bad, the place looks nice, but the prices are not coherent with reality.

Starters: all four starters we got were delicious but we felt that the portions could be a little bigger.
Signature roast chicken: the dark meat portions were great but the white meat portions were dry and tough.
Grilled threadfin: disappointed to find not one, but over six pieces of pin bones and fish scales in my portion. Although the fish tasted nice, I felt that the bones ruined the experience as I felt anxious about accidentally swallowing a bone. When enquired, their response was they only remove the backbone of the fish but do not remove the pin bones which makes no sense. I have never heard of bones being left in fish for French fine dining.
Madeleines: freshly baked and delicious
Wine: we enjoyed the white wine recommended to us.

Disappointed…may be overhyped?
Ambience: the key dining area is very no frills and basic and a bit dark. There is a dining area in the wine shop which is more interesting as it is more open but seems to have only large tables. Oh also the air conditioning was too cold so food became cold VERY quickly.
Service: adequate but not attentive. For example, we had the chicken which of course had bones but we were not given any extra plate to put the bones. Also some wet wipes or finger bowls would have been appreciated. Small gestures like these should be expected from fine dining restaurants.
Food: What is it with small portions in fine dining? The starters were just too small! We had the Parmesan souffle and tomato tart with burrata for starters. Both tasted fine but just a bit underwhelming. For HKD280-290 each (USD36), I thought they were way overpriced and should be more like HKD120.
We also had the famous chicken which tasted ok but definitely would not be “one of the best 3 roast chickens in HK” (the others being those at Louise and Belon). In fact the breast meat was a bit dry. Also, I had expected more flavours (from different herbs) but it tasted surprisingly “one-dimensional”. It was quite similar to roast chicken at some Chinese restaurants. The rice that came with the chicken tasted ok but was a bit mushy.
The tarte tatin was also disappointing. It was a small lump of poached apple on pastry and was too sweet.
The complimentary mint tea after dessert was a nice gesture.
Went to Lousie the day before Batard, well the cold angel hair and roast chicken were more delicious than Louise, better performance than the last time I visit Batard. yum yum
New try-Pretty impressed by their Parmesan soufflé, sooo rich!!!! Liked the iberico pork sando too

Globally poor experience.
We took the lunch set menu composed of 5 plates. The food was tasty and well presented.
My main concern is that the food is for a 5 years old child not for an adult. I get out the the restaurant hungry and disappointed.
The bill was around 1.6k hkd (200usd dollars)
For 3 not even snack entrances and half a chicken full of fat…
The vine menu is great.
I won’t recommend this restaurant to my friend and won’t return either.
good value lunch sets and wine but you can expect much better service from Sir Berwick across the street (where we went right after becoz’ of tiny portions)

The meal was very enjoyable. with their Chawanmushi with Maitaki being the best dish of the meal. Their signature roast Chicken is also ultra yummy. Service was attentive bordering on a little stiff. Set Lunch pricing is good for the quality and quantity you get.

It’s all about wine here
The food was excellent, service was friendly and the wines were fantastic.
Highlighted the photogenic IGable big ultra-modern wine cellar and glass staircase.
Must try their signature Roasted chicken.
The only thing I would comment, We need to wait half an hour for the dessert !!

Well, it was simply nothing special. The Signature chicken was a good average one, which was no better than a good Hainan chicken rice at quite a few Malaysian run restaurants. Not much of an ambience, service was kind of bad, not horrible though. Can’t remember much because it was not particularly memorable. Oh yes, all dishes were way too salty. There is nothing french except for the music which was a good selection of 50s/60s french artists.
Definitely won’t recommend.
