Terra is a contemporary and non-pretentious Mediterranean Restaurant specialized in authentic Spanish cuisine. It offers a delectable choice of finest (and real) “Tapas”, starters, mains and desserts. The selection of wines is excellent and includes celebrated premium bodega labels like Raventós I Blanc, Costers del Sio, Celler Pinol and a few more. The lunch set is excellent and of unparalleled value within the district. The same goes for Terra’s a la carte selection. Service is non-intrusive and very attentive and we found it a most suitable venue for mid-sized parties
We decided to try out Terra, a spanish restaurant on High Street, in Sai Ying Pun the other day. The decor is a little… eclectic, and feels as though it’s having an identity crisis. It’s seems to shuffle in between high end, casual and fast food, so it’s a little confusing. We were seated under the blackboard containing the days specials, and I was hopeful when our waiter had a spanish accent. We ordered the chorizo to start, and the sea bass and pork ribs for main. The waiter recommended the pork ribs, as they “came from Spain” and were “delicious”, so I figured why not.
The chorizo came with a side of patatas bravas, and was in a clay pot filled with rum. The waiter lit the rum on fire, and you cooked the chorizo on a metal skewer turning it over the flames. A novelty to be sure. The chorizo was good, but it was like any chorizo you can buy in a Macau grocery store (and more than a few places in HK), good but not great. The patatas bravas were quite disgusting, they were large chunks of potatoes that seemed to have been deep fried in old oil until just barely burnt on the outside, but slightly raw on the inside. Unpleasant to say the least.
The mains came, the sea bass was quite overcooked, and dry, but had very good flavour. The pork ribs that were supposed to be smoked, were an odd pink color (not a bark/natural smoke ring from smoking, but more like brined in some weird red smoke flavour) and almost inedibly salty. I have a very salty palette, and these were borderline inedible for me.
Couple this with mediocre service, and a group of older Chinese gentlemen (who seemed to be very familiar with the staff, perhaps an owner and his friends) sitting there drinking, and swearing loudly in Cantonese made this a pretty lousy dining experience. We didn’t stick around for dessert that’s for sure. The one good thing was the Estrella Galicia beer on tap.
To sum it up, this is not an inexpensive place to dine, and it’s definitely not worth the price, Sai Ying Pun is starting to blossom and they’re going to have to step up their game to stick around I think. We will not be returning.
I came for dinner on a Tuesday, the atmosphere was great and the staff was extremely friendly. They had a good selection of of liquor and craft beer. I had a Gweilo beer and, (on the suggestion of my waitress) the lamb Wellington. The price was a little high but the food was delicious and the lamb was cooked perfectly.
I had a hard morning at work but made it there for a lunch gathering with friends and late for 20 minute. “No lunch for you as you are too late” was the greeting from the waiter, what a great reception. To show his humor, 5 minutes later he again told me “you should be happy here”. Yes I should be happy if you just have your ‘humor’ and leave me alone! Next for the food , the chicken Sznitzel was a deep deep fried cutlet of chicken breast guaranteed to have no taste but only rough texture. The presentation was chic but the side dishes or appetizers just chopped veggie with vinegar and olive oil. In general, nothing attract me back.
美味的食物和善良!
最重要的是,好吃!!
The flying pigs bistro was amazing and it had wonderful food. The decor was enjoyable and funny. The staff were friendly and helpful. I highly suggest that you visit this place.
Nice place for brunch and dinner.
Average quality but overpriced. The food is not bad, just very average, but given the pricing, it is over priced. W ould only recommend getting a drink, but if you were getting a drink, there are alot of alternatives nearby.
Good presentation
The hostess and host Christopher are really helpful, plus some of the food are real value for money and they actually taste good. Why not visit when you’re in SYP.
Food is good. Roast suckling pig is a must. Chris, the owner, is so welcoming.
Nice food. A bit too close to the next table but yet pet friendly.
Great food and service. Nice vibe. High St feels like a more relaxed Staunton St.
Happy hour 平靚正
Seriously, the manager is the best! He’s super accommodating and friendly. The venue is also spacious and the food is not only delicious but good value for money.
You simply have to go try their lunch set! 3 course meal for only $110. It’s my go to now.
The service was super slow- and the restaurant wasn’t even full. My smashed avo on sourdough came first, and I waisted 10min for my coffee- after two gentle reminders to the waitresses, my coffee finally came, much to their dismay.
The poached eggs were properly drained of their water, before they were laid out on the smashed avo and bread. My first bite was a mushy mouth full of runny squeeshy avocado, with a strong dose of that vinegar water they had poached the eggs in— all blended in my mouth with soggy sourdough.
I took two bites and left it there. Made a remark to the waitress, but I don’t think she understood how avocado toasts are supposed to be…
Great spot! I was pleasantly surprised by the flavours here. Excellent food and service.
Friday Night Visit.
Welcomed and offered a choice seating. Menu is well thought out and nice to see the stater coming as a starter followed by small break then the mains.
Steak cooked to perfection, lamb Wellington on point!
Oh, this place has the best glasses in HK…
Nice food, nice staff.
Really great Western food close to HKU.
Flying Pig Bistro is a very special place because of its eco-friendly interior designs, and of course their food! I’ve tried their Pig’s burger, suckling pig and their Quinoa Salad, absolutely delicious! They have Sunday Roast buffet and free flow wine and spirits on Saturday and Sunday and BBQ night on Monday and Tuesday, pretty good deal! Every item there is in generous portion! 🙂
i ordered a piece of ribeye they gave me sirloin.
The food was great, service was great. Some of the best western food we have had in Hong Kong during our short time living here.
Nice place for chatting, service is nice, delicious food are served with reasonable price
Great lamb chops, accompanied by good red wine. The atmosphere is very comfortable too, not too crowded.
Nice setting. Friendly service. Food was just ok. Chicken and the pork knuckle are both dry, and overcooked. Beer was excellent.
Nice service with worth trying pork dishes
friendly staff and nice food. a very cozy place to have lunch with friends
Pulled pork sliders were good. The burgers looked huge so only order if you have a big appetite. Husband had Pork Cheeks with Thai Salad which was a bit odd and not very Thai, it had green olives in it. Beer was local and good.
Your local friendly lunch stop.
Yummy steaks 🥩🥓and the schnitzel is👌🍗🍖
Great friendly service to boot.
They did not have what were listed in the menu. I ended up with fish n chips. The fish is fishy. The white wine is of room temperture. Horrible.
Nice atmosphere reasonable prices.
We loved everything there. The staff was quick and really welcoming. The food was served so fast and the Pulled Pork Burger was so delicious. This nice little restaurant has such a nice atmosphere 😉 We will definitely come back!
Food was ok – nothing more – but the service was awful. It took an age to get served and three go’s to get the drinks right
Ok. All day breakfast is great.
牛扒普通,其他都還可以
Good food and dog friendly
Set lunch is good. The steak is juicy 👍 …
Nice place, good for lunch, around 150/Lunch
很棒的早午餐,氣氛很好
Went there with my family. Ordered a tenderloin steak. The steak came pre cut and was quite rare in the middle. I asked the manager why it was pre cut and why it was so rare. They gave a bs answer about a steak being thick and being frozen and couldn’t defrost in time. Manager and the chef don’t know how to cook a steak. The manager thought this was a dish that could be served instead of talking to the chef and just kept giving excuses not owning up to the problem.
I recommend iberico pork rips. cos this restaurant is flying pig. bb
Dog friendly place for brunch
Flying pig bistro is an appropriate name in that pigs will fly when this can be considered a bistro. The avocado looked like it came out of a tube, the coffee could’ve been mistaken for dirt in hot water and the omlette looked worse than what I manage at home.
I kind of expected a refund when they cleared our full coffees from the table, but I guess the wait staff are aware of their kitchen’s shortcomings and didn’t bother.
It has some nice music and has a nice ambiance
Very reasonably priced and delicious foods , and the service staff was helpful and friendly.
Great food and dog friendly! Regular stop for us.
I had the tuna salad, and my girlfriend the Thai squid salad. Very good taste, and plenty of tuna and squid. Price reasonable too. Fat efficient and friendly service. We brought our dog which was allowed if seated at the front.
Ate a late Breakfast everyday there during my stay in Hong Kong. The eggs benedict is excelkent. It can be found at the beginning of the mid-levels district on High Street.
Perfect lunch set at wonderful price.
