By American Southwest standards, this place is horrible. That said, I can’t be too hard on it, as we’re a long way from the American Southwest.
Horchata (22 for a large cold): Good, nice and creamy, though a bit chalky.
Fried fish taco (21): Pretty decent, and seemed to be freshly fried.
Grilled fish taco (21): A little too heavily salted and flavored on the fish for my taste, but at least it was hot and seemed to be freshly made.
The three regular tacos I tried all came out just warm and not hot, and the meat was quite dry in all three. I’m guessing these were stewing for quite a long time in vats.
Carnitas (18): Had a really good flavor, I liked the flavor, which makes it a shame that the meat was as tough as beef jerky. Seriously, I sat there chewing each bite for like thirty seconds.
Pastor (18): The called is a spicy pork, but it was really more sweet than spicy. Not a big fan.
Carne Asada (18): Just dry.
Chicken super taco (30): The super meant it came with guacamole and some other extras. I wasn’t wild about the flavor of the chicken. At least it wasn’t dry, though, maybe thanks to the guac.
There’s also a 10% service charge here.
Very nice. Ingredients felt fresh. We had two rounds of tacos and one huevos rancheros. And flan for dessert. It hit the spot. Two things: sauce needs to be a bit more spicy, and the guacamole portion a bit larger. Overall quite good.
fantastic food offerings from drinks to food. love their cactus dish so much bc im pretty sure I can’t find it anywhere else in hk!
Great food and service! Love the Mexican decoration and the Latin music background. We spent $630 for 2 people with drinks. Very reasonable price for Western food in Hong Kong.
Authentic Mexican food made with fresh and healthy ingredients which is very rare in Hong Kong!
Personal favorites:
Grilled fish taco – I get this all the time. Light, fresh and tasty. Ask for the corn taco if they have it.
Snapper ceviche – very fresh fish, lightly seasoned just enough to bring out the natural taste
Whole grilled chicken – tender and juicy and just perfect.
Horchata – creamy rice drink with just a touch of cinnamon.
Other items:
Oaxaca cheese fundido – very tasty and goes perfectly with the corn chips. I actually really like this but it’s a lot of cheese and quite heavy. Good for big groups, but a bit too much for 2-3 ppl.
Burritos – good and reminds me of the ones I used to have in US. (in general I find burritos a bit too filling though!)
Molcajete – I thought the chicken and beef was a little dry.
The food was mid range, decent and hit the spot. But even for a HK establishment, charging 168 HKD for a burrito is daylight robbery.
正宗墨西哥菜,非常值得一試,會再來光顧!
老闆好好招呼,餐牌設計很用心。菜式幾特別,是不是正宗的不知道,但至少不是每天都可以吃到的風味。
I had brunch here but really not that amazing, the drinks are surprising though, really not expected from Mexican dish. Maybe I need to come again in dinner time to try other dishes.
The best Mexican food in Hong Kong. I especially like original favor the the ambiance of the restaurant. The service is fast and detailed. If you have Mexican favour that’s the same as you can taste in Mexican, come here for sure. Moreover, the price is acceptable.
Great chips and salsa, tacos and quesadillas plus a friendly staff. What more do you need in a Mexican restaurant? Nothing.
Service isn’t great, it’s probably better if you speak Cantonese. I was bit disappointed that they couldn’t give us the promotion they advertised on our table, despite nothing indicating it was only for dinner time.
Food is good.
Food and Drink are pricey. Less choice of tequila. Yet staff is friendly.
Love the seafood paella. Snapper cerviche was surprisingly refreshing. Simply not the usual tacos and nachos you’d expect from ordinary Mexican food.
The most authentic Mexican food in reasonable price. Conveniently located. Friendly chef and professional staff. Such a great place!
Excellent drinks. Have to go back for the food.
The food was not as tasty as I hoped. It was severely lacking taste in both my and friends opinion. I also received the worst margarita ever, according to my friend.
FINALLY! An authentic Mexican restaurant in Hong Kong! I’ve been searching everywhere for some decent authentic Mexican food; not all that Tex Mex rubbish which seems to be proliferating the streets these days. I can say from my experience that Verde Mar serves AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD. They also have a great selection of drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic which would cater to everyone’s tastes;
Had lunch there. Although never been to Mexico, I think the taste is good. Just portion is bit small, ok to me, but not to big eaters. Comfy and cosy.
Authentic Mexican Food & Drinks
Everything inside Verde Mar stays true to Mexican style – the music, the Decor and OF COURSE the food and drinks!
Drinks- I’ve always been a huge fan of the MIMOSA and MOJITO …. so I can decide “good or bad” in just the first sip.
And as soon as I sipped that Mimosa…. I knew that I wanted more! And I finished it quickly and ordered my other favorite the Mojito. Verdict is – DEFINITELY GOOD DRINKS HERE! ( and I mean the alcoholic cocktail drinks ….. I can’t comment on non-alcoholic ones coz I don’t drink them 😜)
TACOS are a must-try for me if I’m eating at a Mexican place. So I did order 3 different types of tacos – 1 FRIED SOLE TACO, 1 CHICKEN TACO and 1 AL PASTOR PORK TACO. You can choose between 4 types of fillings/meat…. the 4th one being Carnitas Pork.
All three tasted great but the Fried sole taco certainly stole the show 👍
The BURRITO BOWL SUPREME was sufficient quantity-wise and very tasty quality-wise…. it was only very mildly spicy …. so perhaps ask them to make it more spicy (if you want it spicy and if they are ok to do it).
Being a total foodie, I couldn’t resist ordering a plate of CHIMICHANGA!! Kinda looks similar to a spring roll… but tastes so different and so much better ! Once again you can specify the type of filling/meat..I ordered it with Carnitas Pork.
Would’ve loved to order dessert but I got greedy with the CHIMICHANGAS and had no room left for dessert (and would’ve loved to write about it!)
Anyway I can try the dessert next time since I would definitely be coming again!👍🏻⭐️
They played Mexican birthday song when they know we are celebrating birthday for someone. Very funny ! Like all the funny Mexican food they served too.
Awesome food. Tacos and Burritos are just so delicious and tasty. Charcoal Cactus is a definite try..Tastes good. All in all great food and lovely service.
Definitely very far from a typical Mexican friendly restaurant.
Overpriced
They charge you also the nachos and salsitas which are supposed to be complimentary!
Great lunch deals and good food. The location is convenient. Seating may be tight.
This is hands down the best Mexican food I have found in Hong Kong. It has begin my go to when I am craving Mexican food similar to what I am used to in the US.
Great food and enthusiastic staff. The owner is hands on and very willing to engage with patrons. It was recommended to me by a Mexican as one of HK’s most authentic Mexican restaurants – it certainly lived up to my expectations.
Finally some real meat in Hong Kong! Great stuff in this restaurant: decoration with nice Piñatas, home made salsa, good cheese, excellent corn and horchata. And great service with some waiters speaking Spanish. Well done guys. Keep on perfecting the tortillas and it will be the best place in Asia.
Have been before for a lunch and fell in love with this place for its food and great staff. Went today to be greeted by poorly trained and unapologetic staff. Food delay without any reasons, and to top it off a large cockroach running over the table (even after well all stood up to get some assistance in removing the roach, the staff just continued with there day, so we ended up killing it, hence we left the remained of the meals and left. Very disappointing, I am guessing the management were not there as this was shaping up to be a great place. PS. but once again the food was great, just a shame it is now on the no go list.
Excellent food with a satisfactory range of mexican food on menu, staffs are friendly. LOVE the avocado -ish option her, and the avocado smoothie is beyond good.
I won’t go again.
Wait staff hovered and seemed impatient with us but couldn’t tell us immediately what was in their meals. Food was average.
They were keen for us to leave after we finished our meal, but there was hardly anyone else in the restaurant so wasn’t like they needed the table.
From visiting government offices to lawyer and solicitors to shop around for a reasonably priced notary all morning, I came to Verde Mar for lunch.
Good Mexican food in Hong Kong is yet a hidden for me, in Hong Kong. And that one disinterested server didn’t make it all the more experiential here.
I got a lunch set that comes with rice + beans. I was making sure the enchiladas were vegetarian but that server wasn’t sure and was so disappointed when I asked her to confirm with the kitchen if it was completely vegetarian – no animal stocks or fats or the likes.
The faces these people make makes me wonder why do they take people facing roles? It was noon. I was the only guest in the restaurant that far. Was she tired, having a bad or sad day or just plain indifferent?
After confirming with who looked like the supervising server that it would be vegetarian, and asking her to skip the cheese, I did order the enchilada lunch set. At least, she bothered to make eye contact, was a bit more interested.
And much to my dismay, it came out looking as depressing as that server. My vegetarian enchiladas were stuffed with refried beans, and served with a side of refried beans and rice. There wasn’t enough of the tomato salsa / sauce that is so typical of enchialadas that I’ve eaten so far.
And you know those onions that are sitting there, cut for a while and how they smell – they put those inside in the enchiladas along with the refried beans.
Wonder why they didn’t think of adding some vegetables. Basic peppers and tomatoes. What about cilantro?
The two salsas that were served with the meal were nice. Undersalted, but good. The chips were oil-drenched.
Hello good Mexican food in Hong Kong, where are you? I think ordering a margarita there would’ve done me some good. Because then I might not have cared as much about all this – and that I didn’t receive a bye or an acknowledgement while leaving. Such a shame, because the look and feel of the place was more inviting than the people there.

食午餐lunch, 不过分量太少,服务很一般
If you’re fine with sullen, disinterested staff serving you some pretty suspect Mexican dishes for a King’s Ransom, go right ahead and dine at Verde Mar.
We ordered a couple of Happy Hour Sangrias which were essentially yesterday’s cheap house wine mixed with synthetic OJ and a tonne of ice, changed over to Margaritas which turned out to be sickeningly sweet and tart at the same time. The free nachos were a tiny portion – expectedly, and the medium-spiced Habanero wings were essentially steamed wings floating in mildly spiced tomato sauce. The pièce de resistance – pardon my French – was a corn and mushroom salads, for the price of a small car, that was some esoteric fungus afflicted corn mixed with garden vegetables.
Wholly regrettably unforgettable meal.
It’s a wonder they’re still in business.
Food was alright. Staff couldn’t take the order right. Took extra 30 min. For remaining food to come out to eat with rest of people. Price was little high for quality. Maybe I should have ordered in Spanish…
We stopped here for a drink, I had a mojito and it is the worst mojito I have ever had, and the male staff was very rude to us. I dont think i will ever come again.
Very authentic Mexican food. It has some classic Mexican drinks like the Michelada. Also some very authentic dishes representing the rich culinary diversity of the various regions of Mexico. The food was delicious and the decor quite unique. Will go again
嘗試新款菜色,有特色!不太貴!很好!可試!💪 …
Great authentic Mexican-American food for a slightly steep price. Can’t give it 5 stars because of the $20usd nachos.
Decent food and good drinks but quite pricey for what you get. Decor is fun and innovative (piñatas in the air!) which reflects on the food. However the wait staff is very clueless and disorganised. While they didn’t get orders wrong, it was quite an exercise waving them over to get service or to deliver our orders, send the bill etc., even after the restaurant emptied out.
食物美味,價錢中等,唯好辣者未能滿足
環景 ok , 食物一般! 推介牛油果奶昔
Food is amazing. Love their vegan menu, too!
The food was alright, I was actually quite impressed with their vegan menu. But the service was so bad that I’m pretty sure I won’t go again. First of all when we sat down, the place was empty, we were the second table that they had served and when we left it was still half empty. We were looking at the menu and we kindly ask for another vegan menu. The waiter rolled her eyes on us and mumbled “why do u need another menu?” We kinda ignored that. When we were ordering tacos, we didn’t know there were different options. The waiter crossed her arms, impolitely said we need to choose. So we chose, she missed what we said and kept repeating that we need to choose assertively. We repeated our order and then finished the order. We also politely said thank you. They served the food and the minute as soon as we finished the food they came and collect the dishes and brought us the bill. We didn’t even ask for it and it’s not like they need the table back very badly because the place was quite empty. So then we paid and we wanted to have a longer chat so we stayed for a 30 mins longer. Before we leave, I wanted to get some hot water in my bottle as I was sick and was having an itchy throat. They literally ignored us at first and didn’t want to come to us. After exchanging some words between themselves, they decided to come to us and reluctantly gave me some water. It was such an uncomfortable experience, will never go again.
Food not bad, servers are nice enough but inexperienced, nervous and not so great with English. Most dishes are ok priced for HK but drinks are red light district expensive. US$ 8 for a Coke and no refills was a joke. We came with a large group with some kids which was a mistake. I would consider coming back but only with a small group of adults and maybe during happy hour.
Nacho and Salad are basically the same, chicken wing is totally dry, small and overcooked. Too expensive. MOT RECOMMENDED AND WILL NEVER GO AGAIN.
The most authentic Mexican place in Hong Kong! Congratulations and Eligio, the owner and chef, he’s amazing with people. Thanks!
Decent food and environment. A real taste of Mexican
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, you can have water for free. Service charge inclided. We had the lunch menu, which was tasty enough but nothing spectacular (especially the vegetarian tacos could do with more interesting and substantial fillings) – probably wouldn’t come for dinner because the food quality doesn’t match the prices on the dinner menu. But would recommend for lunch with a calm atmosphere.
The food was wonderful and the atmosphere was so chill for a Sunday afternoon.
The male server was so passionate in introducing the food to us. The Chef also checked with us how the food was – in general the service was good, the place was cozy, and we would definitely visit again.
Definitively worth the time for authentic Mexican Food! I love the Birria Stew and the quesadillas. Quite friendly staffs, and have a very cozy Mexican theme decoration, with pinatas hanging in the ceiling.
