Hidden gem! great atmosphere and super selection of sake. Very nice young waitstaff too. Will come again.
Excellent atmosphere; great music; waitstaff is VERY attentive; the food delicious; and to top if off, they have an INCREDIBLE selection of sake!! Be sure and try the KFC (Korean fried cauliflower) – it’s absolutely AMAZING!!!
Must order the fried chicken, kfc, sweet corn tempura.
It’s got balls, sweet corn fritters style!
I started going to Yardbird when you could still walk in and get a table….those times are long gone. So, go, out your name down and then go home, shower or whatever you need to do and then come back hungry for some of the best fried rice on earth with crispy chicken skin and eggs. The cucumber and pine nut salad is to die for and the corn balls are fun (you won’t resist when you see people around ordering it). The chicken neck is yummy too.
Simply amazing food and service.
Order the rice cakes and ask for the special mayo that comes with the fried chicken. A synergy of immense proportions.
Food is good management is poor.
I went there based on a recommendation from Ovolo hotel. Great atmosphere. Great food. I walked in solo on a Wednesday night and it was packed but got a seat at the bar in just a few minutes.
Good food, good drinks, good service, fun atmosphere.
Yes you will wait as they don’t take reservations, but it is so worth it for the amazing things they do with chicken. Right at opening time, you may be able to snag a table with no wait, but even early in the night, we had a two hour wait. Be ready for it, and grab a seat at one of the nearby bars. Even still, after two ours our table wasn’t ready, so we just ate at the bar which was actually better as the downstairs was sweltering. The bartenders are very friendly and mix amazing cocktails. The BLT (bourbon, lemon, tonic) was stellar. The food here is the real draw and for good reason. Any piece of chicken is amazing. The skewers were succulent and sweet. The meatballs were crispy and savory. The duck fried rice is deserving of its own religion. And the pork belly was tender and fatty in a good way. I think they are going for a NYC gastro bar feel, and they did in fact succeed. Love this restaurant!
Awesome yakitori and drinks! Be sure to order the chicken oyster, the KFC (Korean Fried Cauliflower) and the sweet corn tempura!
Impressively executed food items and inventive cocktails. I’ve heard of it for sometime, first from Sunday Groceries, but only got a chance to try it out recently. Like Sunday, this restaurant is great at taking the ordinary and traditional and elevating it to a higher class category. It’s not cheap, but chicken and cocktail fans will love the experience. Those that have a taste for Japanese cuisine will have no problem appreciating it either.
Absolutely gorgeous chicken dishes. Can get quite busy so try to make a booking before you come.
Food was aight, not worth all the hype. Feel like I could’ve gotten better at half the price, drinks were good though. Service kinda slow due to mass influx of people at once.
Pretty decent food, very good service
Simply my favourite spot in HK at the moment…
Great food and drinks. The highballs are tasty and refreshing on a hot day.
The meatball is a clear favorite for me. The chicken egg rice is also very good.
Excellent food and drinks if you are lucky enough to get in. Queues can be long but it’s worth the wait.
What is a single bad thing to say about this restaurant? Although, if you’re the type of person who prefers making reservations and hates waiting for tables, this isn’t the place for you.
I’ve been here so many times and each experience has been amazing. Great lively atmosphere with friendly and accommodating staff. Such a huge variety of chicken yakitori to choose from and the non-chicken dishes are excellent. My favorites are:
To start,
Sweet corn tempura (so crispy and sweet, not overly oily)
Liver mousse (like a pate with this really good milk bread)
Skewers,
Chicken oyster and chicken inner thigh (both so juicy and succulent. Order the oyster early before it sells out)
Chicken neck (crunchy and flavorful)
Chicken meatball (perfect texture with a yummy soy/egg yolk dipping sauce)
Mains,
Chicken and egg rice (moist glutinous rice adorned with mouth watering crispy pieces of chicken skin, and a wobbly egg on top)
Katsu sando (a katsu sandwich, what more needs to be said)
Mushroom udon is also solid
Also, the house shichimi seasoning goes well with everything–if you’re not drowning your dishes in it, you’re doing it wrong. They give you a little bag to take home too.
Not to mention, Yardbird has a fantastic selection of drinks including a variety of highballs, wines, and whiskeys. The house sake is awesome.
Service is usually pretty speedy and although it’s a pricey joint, it’s absolutely worth it and forever one of my favorite restaurants. No reservations, go early or you’ll have to wait for a long time (and the best dishes will be sold out).
Good restaurant if you want something special around chicken. Very friendly staff
Really good, but be there early! We had to wait over an hour for a table, because they don’t take reservations, but I’d say it was worth the wait.
Wonderful and easy food is served in this expats hole. Great energy, it is a good place to kick off the night.
I’m not sure what all the hype is about here–tiny, cramped space with decent food, but I can’t say anything I tried while I was there was overly exciting, including that chicken meatball you dip in the egg yolk that everyone seems to love. The service was good but overall it was a disappointing experience given what I had heard.
Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Hong Kong: unique food and drinks, great service, must go!
It’s worth the wait yardbird ticks all the boxes
還不錯,但是從日本人的角度來看,大概是☆☆☆
Fun spot! Great tapas style food, right in soho
Great food and beer. Great ambience.
Yum! This place does delicious fried chicken, and other assorted vittles. It’s a bit of a hipster joint, and can be quite busy, so get there early or you’ll be waiting in line.
Nice yakitori, expect to eat every possible part (including insides) of the chicken. A bit pricey and crowded though.
This is a perfect place to hangout. Nice ambience and friendly staff. Pretty busy everyday, but you can order drink while waiting for a table.
Famous for their yakitori , try meatball and chicken tail. perfect match with highball or japanese whisky.
If you are looking for a quiet place, forget it!
The food is amazing.
This place was amazing + definitely lived up to the hype! Maybe because we’re coming from the US where the portions can be ginormous, my husband + I found them to be the perfect size. It actually allowed us to try more dishes!!! Everything was delicious perfectly smoky + well seasoned. I’ll definitely be back!
Crowded even on weekday but the staff is very patience and warm by always checking in their customers to make sure everything is alright from food to services. Booking in advance is recommended.
Fantastic Japanese-style Izakaya. Great service and beautiful decor. Go early to avoid disappointment in waits – try the corn fritters!
Chicken & Egg Rice, Chicken Liver Mousse.
Awesome staff, great food, cool environment. Well worth the queue. Would highly recommend to chicken meatball.
Very clever concept, Japanese Yakitori of every part of the chicken plus other food. High quality food and drinks.
Tasty, good cocktail and whiskey selection but way overpriced.
Great place, hip, great food, excellent service and a good taste of hip hop music. If you don’t mind loud music and people enjoying there cocktails around you, this is the place to be for yakitori in Hong Kong, with the emphasis on tori … chicken!
Went here you celebrate my birthday and surely it was a perfect choice! Food is very nicely prepared and the drinks delicious. Our favourite dishes were: liver mousse, meat balls and the sweet corn tempura!
Cosy modern yakitori restaurant with a bit of a wait. Might not be my go-to place but worth a try. Fav dishes: chicken skin and inner thigh.
HKD 900+ for a bottle of umeshu is pushing the boundaries on what’s acceptable to charge for plum wine.
Good range of yakitori with modern flair. Loved the rice cake. Pity on the lack of alcohol licence. Expensive for a casual yakitori place.
Probably my favourite restaurant in HK right now. Service and food is always awesome but try to go early by around 7ish otherwise you’ll probably end up waiting for at least an hour before you get a table.
Love the food & drinks but hate the bill. The portion is small so be prepared for a pricy meal if you keep ordering.
I would rather go for happy hour or late night drink & have 1-2 skewers next time.
Food was excellent. An institution that cannot be missed when one is visiting Hong Kong. Friendly staff (Tyler and Kenneth).
