busy, excellent food. Japanese yakitori fusion style
Izakaya Yakitori concept. Yardbird is expensive. Yardbird is a long wait. Yardbird serves okay food but it will be mainly the drinks and atmosphere you go for. Go just for the food – maybe. Good just for the drinks – perhaps. Go for the long queues – hells no. Go for a combination of all of the above and good vibes (still even after so many years), great company and friends (it’s better in small groups than as a date night spot) and get a drink whilst waiting.
Chicken meatball, KFC, ume thigh: good.
Big letdowns: eggplant salad (more boring cucumber than eggplant, with light sourish sauce) and brussel sprouts (cloyingly oversweet & bitter garlic).
Cocktails (HK$100-200 each): nice but weak (had 7 for the night).
Service: fast, friendly and welcoming.
This place gets full very quickly so it pays to be there as it opens to get a good table or even a seat at the bar. Service was wonderful throughout my time there, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. It is not cheap but every dish I ordered was delicious and unique, so the value one gets becomes considerable. I highly recommend the chicken neck, hearts, kidneys, and gizzards, all with great sauces and spices. I also enjoyed very much the duck fried rice. Definitely a place to try while visiting Hong Kong.
All my family loves this Japanese restaurant in Hong Kong, great food and excellent hospitality and service! Never tired of visiting and highly recommended!
The place has some great fusion yakitory but also enough other vegetarian dishes. Good cocktail selection too.
The wait and their queueing system is pathetic though at times. They don’t take reservations and you can’t put your name on the waiting list through phone either. I showed up there once just to be told that the wait is 3hrs….it’s 2017 , there are ways to manage this more efficiently
The service, the food, the ambiance. Everything was world class! Friendliest and most attentive staff and the most meticulously put together menu ever!
Really like the new location. More comfy. Food as tasty as ever.
The best restaurant in Hong Kong
Great food and service. Loud but fun
One of the best spots for great food in a modern-chic, no-frills vibe with top-notch service and some superb sake choices! If you haven’t been, you need to.
The food was great. A few things were already sold out. I had a drink that was refreshing. Can’t say enough about how enjoyable this experience was. The waitress came over and gave us a sake shot.
Must go when u are in Hong Kong
Fun. Awesome drinks, great food and cool vibe.
Incredible food, really lovely staff. I couldn’t recommend more. The vegetarian options were much better than expected, too! Would really recommend the Ume Thigh and Thyroid (shown here) especially, but it was all very good.
Such a treat. Delicious assortment of yakatori done to perfection. Get there early as they will run out of the more popular options. Really enjoyed the sweet corn tempura balls and cocktail list. Staff were very attentive and happy to help you order.
Fantastic yakitori and Japanese small bites. Order lots to share.
Love love love that food! Groovy atmosphere and just the nicest staff. Beautuful flavours and textures creatively presented. A must visit when in Hong Kong!
Can’t believe how rude the hostess is! Unbelievable! Don’t think I’ll ever come back again! Whoever comes here please watch out the girl with nose piercing in front desk!
We had an excellent experience here! We arrived when they opened and avoided the wait. Sat right down and started to feast! There are tons of tasty options to choose from and this is an excellent place to eat with friends and share different items from the menu. We loved all the skewers and the fried chicken. The KFC was also extremely tasty! You can’t go wrong. Even the cocktails were unique and well balanced. Give yardbird a shot and you won’t be disappointed!
Great food! Excellent team — shout out to Alex for the awesome service!
Great food and atmosphere
The new location is finally more restaurant than bar, but the menu is still firmly rooted in the “bar snack” style of the original. While a tad on the salty side, everything is very tasty, and I particularly recommend the chicken skin yakitori and the “KFC” (Korean fried cauliflower).
空調不足 服務可以 食物🉑️及格 …
睇落去唔係永樂街,係必列者士街🤔 …
Fantastic food and service!
Amazing food. Great staff. Blinding soundtrack. Never disappoints. New place is huge. These people have got it right and deserve all the success that will come.
朋友聚會的好地方,氣氛熱鬧,食物美味
Very hip but they deliver with excellent cocktails and flawless food. Everything we tried was excellent. The corn fritter and chicken hearts were especially delicious
Great place, great staff, very good food. Recommended.
New location just as good as old. Wait is still long
Good vibes, good food, spotted the owner in the restaurant which is a good sign!
Incredible yakitori and great atmosphere. We got a table for 7 as walk ins pretty easily on a Monday night. It’s not cheap (no food in Hong Kong seems to be!) but well worth the trip – recommended dishes include the sweetcorn tempura, KFC (Korean fried cauliflower) and the meatball skewer. Good cocktails too.
So I will give Yard Bird one star for this reason: Me and my husband came all the way from UAE to visit this place. At around 7:45pm today we arrived and went to the reception. We understood there was a line hence we waited a bit. The other receptionist looked at me in the eye and of course I spoke to her and asked for a table for 2, the other receptionist (Caucasian girl) answered back and put her hand in my face RUDELY and told me to WAIT. By the way, we weren’t even talking to her and that person she was assisting? We were there before them. Now in my Asian culture, doing a gesture like that is RUDE and unacceptable in hospitality industry. I decided to immediately leave and went to another restaurant. Now this message is for the management of Yard Bird, we have been traveling often to HK and explored a lot of fantastic restaurants in the city, most of the people we encountered in hospitality are genuine great locals, instead of hiring an impolite, privileged foreigner that are rude to customers, why not help and provide careers to locals that are 10X more hospitable? Just a thought.
Finally – all Europeans welcome, but please leave your snobbish attitude and respect the Asian culture. You’re in HK, not in a random town in Europe!
Yardbird’s buzzing social vibes are even more alive in the new venue. Great cocktails and small plates. There are options for vegetarians from regular menu such as sweetcorn tempora and their KFC a.k.a. Korean fried cauliflower, as well as specials.
Yardbird is yummy but there is always such a long line.. even in new location. last time I went I waited about 70 minutes and was starving so I went out to find a snack to tide me over and just discovered a great place just a few doors down called Mean Noodles with great happy hour food and drinks deal to sit and relax while we wait for a table at YB. Must try especially with upcoming summer don’t want to wait in the heat…
I came here with three friends on Tuesday night around 5.55pm. Oddly enough, the waitress wouldn’t seat us until our 4th person showed up.
Logically speaking, turnover time is the same with 3 or 4 diners at a 4-person table. I told the waitress this and that we would order right away. Logic seemed too much for her to handle, and she asked me “if I was lying to her.”
Food-wise, you’re spending a lot of money to eat a strict caloric deficit. Mini portions. I think they were hesitant in killing more than two chickens for the entire restaurant that night.
The restaurant also boasts the fact that it runs out of things on the menu. I’m not sure I understand why you have prided yourself on a operational failure. “Come early,” your slogan says. So if I can only make it after work at 8pm, I’ll only have chicken ass and feet to eat? Please fix.
“Can I get you anything?” Yes, I would say, you can get us some water. It’s difficult to have a friends reunion when the staff buzzes around, hoping you’ll say “check” if they ask enough times.
“Tips aren’t included,” the waitress says as she preemptively hands down the check. I would hope they aren’t.
Clean and modern decor, delicious yakitori
There’s a bit of a wait, but so worth it. I’ve been following this restaurant for a few years. Pretty excited to finally try. And what a great dinner. Staff was welcoming. The food was great. A few things were already sold out. I had a drink that was refreshing. Can’t say enough about how enjoyable this experience was. The waitress came over and gave us a sake shot.
Moreish food washed down with Sake. One of the great pleasures of Hong-Kong. Taste all the surprisingly different cuts of chicken but remember to try their “meat balls”. Unfortunately, this is an extremely popular place full of hipsters so either arrive early or be prepared for a long wait.
Great vibes, music and selection of food. Highly recommended.
Amazing Japanese food. Lively place, must go when in Hong Kong.
More than lived up to all the hype. More impressive than the food – which was amazing – was the service staff. Each was running the business as their own, making sure to explain each dish, checking in on customers at every opportunity, generally just making sure they have a good time. You can see they really love what they do.
Very hip and busy restaurant. Very friendly and helpful staffs, delicious food and cocktails. Better make reservation to avoid disappointment. We had dinner there at 7pm on a Friday and it was already full house if no reservation made.
Wow experience. Love the corn tempura they do. Simply amazing.
Delicious yakitori, Japanese beer and sake, good music, fun ambiance, welcoming staff. Favourite place in Hong Kong to start with dinner and drinks before a night out.
Amazing vibrant Japanese restaurant in the heart of SoHo. Some incredible food – don’t miss the Kentucky Fried Cauliflower or the Chicken Heart yakitori. Plenty of good sake and cold beers makes this a great night with close friends
Food is perfect. The only problem is there is no reservation and seats are only avaliable when full team arrives
Great service and the food is super good! KFC / Korean Fried Cauliflower is the best ❤❤❤
Don’t know what’s the fuzz about this one – at best average quality ingredients, noisy packed and expensive
