It is worthy of the hype. Downside of this is that it gets pretty busy.
We tried something from every section of the menu except dessert and enjoyed it all. If you go with a group definitely get the pickled vegetables to accompany your order, the additional cost is low and it adds a lot of variety to the meal.
Was crowded when I showed up. Just had a quick litre of water to get refueled.
Pretty over priced for what it is. Atmosphere is lively, service is friendly.
Excellent food. Very hip.
Yardbird is the best! My only “must see” on every trip to Hong Kong.
Perfect food. Serve nice
Buzzy (or noisy depending on your mood), younger crowd. Delicious yakitori. Be prepared to eat standing up on a busy night.
Food is good, no doubt, but what I wanna mention here is the service, which totally ruined the whole dining experience. The hostess is very welcoming and we got seated after waiting for 20 mins on a weekday night. No problem with that.
But our server is one of the worst we ever encountered, which is rush and professional with no smile. He kept asking us to order more food even we are still eating, we said we need a min and will order once we are ready, 5 mins later he came again and ask us whether we are ready to order with no smile. Fine, we ordered another few dishes. For the 2 hrs we been there, he asked us to order more food for 5 times (I m not exaggerating), and he kept pouring my sake glass completely full even though I just have a sip before which was like 80% full. I can’t barely drink without spilling it, and I have to give him a hand signal to stop him from pouring my glass later. I believe he wanna finish our bottle ASAP so we could order another one, but that’s just really annoying.
So food is good here but I won’t come back again coz the service is simply unacceptable and totally ruined our night!
Went there last night with friends. We were told the wait would be 90 minutes for a table. We found some counter space near bar and had drinks and food. Hostess saw that we were eating and never called us for a table. Ended up standing up for the entire dinner and when we complained to waitress, the hostess came over and said that we were next. People that came in after us without reservations got seated but since we were already spending money I guess we didn’t need a table. We were the last people in the bar. I like the food but that’s my last visit to Yardbird.
This place is different! They make chicken differently. Achilles and meatballs were something! Never expected how rewarding this would be! This place is so good that it will make you love Brussels sprout (I personally like them) drizzle of vinegar and garlic chips and I don’t know what else, and a sublime taste. The neck seems to be the hottest thing here, didn’t make it as they run out of it due to popular demand. Above all this, great Japanese beer is available. The barman offered me a shot towards the end, it was cerise sur le gateau to end this great experience. I didn’t wait at all and it was a Saturday night. This place is a must if you ever in HK!
Great atmosphere, much more spacious compared to the old location. Food is awesome but a bit pricey.
One of the best Japanese yakitori restaurant in Hong Kong
I came here with hopes of some lovely Japanese food, what I got was the smallest overpriced Japanese food in Hong Kong.
I ordered a Tomato and Tofu Salad, Chicken Wings yakatori, Meatball yakatori, Chicken and Rice and a Miso Soup. The Miso Soup came last and didn’t even taste anything like a Miso soup! The yakatori were quite frankly a front to Japanese cuisine selling at 45HKD/1 stick of the smallest wings I have ever seen and a meatball. The tofu salad was the only thing that was ok and the chicken and rice… well I waited for this and it turned out they never processed the order.
Overall the experience was extremely disappointing and puts Japanese cuisine to shame.
One the best meals I’ve ever had – everything tender and loaded with flavour, worth every penny.
Incredible, innovative, delicious cuisine..every mouthful an ‘awwww’ moment! Instantly picked up a vibe of a happy, friendly, professional, cohesive & focussed team…well done Yardbird!..we’ll definitely be back…Jeannie Christian-O’rourke
Best chicken I’ve ever eaten.
So much to recommend – but the meatball, the fried chicken and the scotch egg we’re probably my favourites.
Great concept and good food & drinks
HKD450 pp without any drink! For grill chicken parts, seriously? If you just go there to hangout and order as snacks, I guess it’s Ok. But as a meal, DON’T! Even considering the food is tasty and service is good, still totally not worth it. BTW, KFC stands for Korean Fried Cauliflower, at $30 a pop, yeah, right!
Great place to eat some chicken yakitori. A little in the pricer end of things in Hong Kong but definatly one of the most happening places.
Wonderful food, best enjoyed with sake or some other kind of alcohol. All the chicken items delicious. Chicken meatball is addictively good – you won’t be able to stop at just one. Also try their sweet and sour flavoured cauliflower (KFC), which has a slight heat from subtle chilis, and the sweetcorn tempura. Even vegetable hating guys loved these, and ordered seconds! The chicken and egg rice is the tastiest among rice dishes, with great mix of textures from crunchy deep fried chicken skin, the silky smoothness of the blended egg+rice, offset by the sweet pops of fresh flavour from peas. The house sake (“Sundays”) is perfect complement to the food, a must try.
Friendly service helps newbies navigate the menu where you’re spoilt for choices. The wait staff are excellent in making customers feel valued and welcomed despite being super busy. Energetic and somewhat noisy environment.
Overall, very cool restaurant with unforgettable food. But prepare for very long waits for a table as it’s so popular.
Loved the KFC and the chicken meatballs with the egg yolk dipping sauce. Not cheap though.
Awesome spot to grab a drink and some food. No reservations. Vibe is great and always buzzing.
Our favorite restaurant in Hong Kong, Yardbird is a true gem! They recently moved to a much larger location, which is great because now you can actually get in! Their house saki is a must, as well as their caesar, the corn fritters, the duck fried rice and the kampachi tartar. The yakitori is made for the adventurous and not so adventurous- from chicken breast to thyroid.
Love this restaurant! Must try!
What a fabulous restaurant, came here on a Monday night and it was PACKED! Didn’t have to wait long for a seat and it gave us time to pore over the menu. Favourites were the beef rib and sweet corn tempura – the sake selection is also outstanding. A must do if you’re in Hong Kong
Chill and popular place; japanese skewers as signature dishes; other dishes are special and delicious too; price on the high side but given the quality and taste of food, it is worthy.
Great food and atmosphere! Definitely will come back!
incredibly amazing food. every single dish has reach to its taste. Staff at the bar can be a bit more friendly
Paid a visited after reading about Yardbird in the newspaper. Decor was hip and lively. Food was decent but forgettable. Service was friendly but slow. Prices were too high for what it was. Overrated.
Absolutely incredible experience. Do not be apprehensive towards trying new things. Every part of that bird is incredible. 10/10
This place is so much fun! The service is great, the food is awesome, and the atmosphere is super cool! Our waiter, Tyler, created a flight of five Japanese whiskies for us to enjoy throughout our meal, which were amazing. We had “all” of the pickles, which we loved mixing and using as a palate cleanser between skewers. We had the cauliflower and corn (slightly unwillingly, as we didn’t want to waste the stomach room on vegetables, but they were super worth it!)…surprisingly delicious! Then we had the oysters (fatty-licious), neck (amazing flavor and texture), ribs (good, bit our least favorite), achilles (so surprisingly good), and the meatball (it’s all about the sauce = umami x a billion). Then we had the chicken rice (chicken skin on a sort of risotto) and used the leftover sauce from the meatball to dip it in, which may have been our favorite. Such a great meal!
Extremely pricey, really hippy, awesome food. Basically, there is mostly or only chicken for meat. Apart from the salted edamame, all the chicken parts that we have ordered is really good.
But it is so so expensive. Otherwise, definite 5 stars. Good location, very central and accessible, good thing that they do not accept reservations so first come first serve.
Good selection of alcohol. Best place for gatherings of small groups (under 6).
always tasty yakitori of all parts of a chicken. good food and good vibe place.
Superb yakitori! Each and every chicken cuts was great and grilled to perfection! Corn fritters was my another fave! Other dishes was alright.
Morden Japanese settings. Nice spaces between tables so you can still talk with your mates comfortably.
It gets really busy soon as it opens at 6. So get there earlier to avoid the queue!
It’s quite overpriced, considering at the end of the day you’re just buying chicken cuts haha!
Oh well I’ll give it for it’s location, very professional staff and great taste!
Food was extraordinary and fantastic. Atmosphere was live. This restaurant has no service charge and encourages you to tip depending on the quality of service u received (most of the time its wonderful). This restaurant serves japanese yakitori with a Western twist. Highly recommended
Amazingly tasty chicken; great drinks; and a fun, lively atmosphere.
Fantastic vibe and excellent yakitori. Recommend the neck, the achilles and the oyster. Also loved the brussel sprouts. Would definitely come back when in HK!
It feels a bit of a hipster place, we waited above half an hour for some chicken meatball skewers.
40+ minutes plus for a mushroom skewer which we gave up on in the end.
I let you decide if you think that’s appropriate.
We gave up and went another place as we where hungry.
We went a Monday night and it more feels like a drink with snacks place than a yakitori place.
We did try to follow up on our order and got told off by the waitress, on the positive side the manager understood our frustration once we asked for the bill and to cancel the rest of our order.
Sadly it’s the last time for myself going here.
I’ve been living 6,5 years in Hong Kong now, I think there are better places around.
Food was really good. I can see why it has such a high reputation. However the service was atrocious. It felt like a factory designed to pump people through as quickly as possible. Two couples who arrived after us without bookings either were seated before us which was annoying. What further brings it down for me is the extreme cost compared to other high grade restaurants in the area. If it was half the price then you could compare it with the others and give it a 4 star. Dinner was HKD 1450 with three drinks.
Very decent food, but overpriced.
Very nice atmosphere, friendly staff and good quality ingredients for simple or surprising dishes! List of sake and wines is quite decent too!
The place’s ambience and the staff definitely made up for the rating, and what I’ll return for. Food wise, is tasty but would have expected more for that price (almost USD7 for a stick of chicken meat yakitori). What was memorable for me was the gin sour, as well as the Kanpachi Tartare starters. For yakitori, it’s almost the same yakitori sauce for most of the sticks. We’ve got the Ume Thigh (wrapped w shiso), meat ball (that comes w a soy sauce dip w an egg yolk. Soy sauce sort of overwhelming since the meat ball itself seemed to be seasoned tasting well enuf by itself), miso breast, and the oyster. The oyster is a part of the chicken, and it’s the most juicy and tender of all we’ve ordered. Also tried the Korean Fried Cauliflower. Interesting take for vegetarians, the batter does taste like the sweeter version of Korean fried chicken batter skin. There chilli flake concoction adds a nice spicy umami, and they offer to sell it too. Be there at about 6pm sharp so you don’t have to queue! Newly renovated place is v hip and spacious and nice.
A high end bar that serves salad, yakitori, noodle and light snack. The food was tasty and the place was very crowded and noisy.
Good food, but overpriced for what you get.
It’s a ‘modern’ type yakitori place. The skewers are really good, nicely seasoned and grilled. The flavors are punchy and strong.
The table service is also actually pretty good. The staff are attentive, fast & efficient. Only 4 stars because the place is actually rather pricey for yakitori, however worth a visit.
