Food is really good. Nice ambience and music. Cocktails are great. Staff is very friendly.
Corn fritters average, tsukune and mushroom rice the stars of the show. Turn up around 6 to ensure a spot. Wouldve been 5 stars but service was incredibly slow, drinks were forgotten and wouldn’t hurt to get a high chair.
Hipster yakitori but flavors are authentic as are the parts of the chicken available. No reservations equate to possibly long waits for a table but the superb bar service and cool vibes make the wait a lot easier. Hooray for inventive highball cocktails and twist on Japanese classics.
Typing as I’m eating and drinking. Can’t stop because their food and drinks are soooo good!! Service is awesome here. Definitely worth coming!
Amazing place, great atmosphere. If you go, try the KFC (Korean fried cauliflower) and the sweet corn tempura.
Amazing food and great drinks. Awesome vibe for a small group hangout. Difficult with groups over 4.
Honestly overpriced! Dishes are nice however for such price point, there are quite many nice yakitori options too!
great food and wonderful place
Super cool atmosphere food even better! Loved it
The best chicken I’ve ever had! Recommend the chicken meatball yakitori.
Yardbird is an absolute must when in Hong Kong!!! They don’t take reservations so it’s best to arrive early to get a table or you’ll be standing and eating…which honestly is not bad and goes with the whole vibe. Another plus for arriving early is so that you can try all the delicious yakitori before the popular ones sell out. Such a lively, upbeat restaurant with young and fun servers and the the open kitchen is so extra because you get to see all the grilling action live! You have got to try the seared yellowtail salad, omg it’s so addictive. Also the Kastu Sando is a must…oh and the mushroom rice! Honestly, everything is good here!
Oh so expensive food was the only thing that went thrilought my mind. The clams pasta was surprisingly good but overpowering and salty.
The yakitori items were decent.
If you love alcohol, you’ll be spoilt for choices.
Very very noisy place. Not for heart to heart talks.
Tasty food and great, friendly staff! 👍 …
Hippy atmosphere but the food is average. Corn tempura, KFC and meatball are the favorites. The Inedit beer is also better value than the draft beer.
Fantastic experience, a focus on chicken and Japanese cuisine. Can have a long wait time but definitely worth it for the food and drink offering
I have been to Yardbird twice. The food was very good, but I had a horrible experience this time – I am 8 months pregnant and ordered a non-alcoholic lemonade without ice. When the drink was served to me (with ice), it tasted a bit strange so I asked the waiter twice if this is the lemonade. He confirmed both times. 10 mins later I started to blush and grew increasingly suspicious. I asked a different waiter, who then told me “this is a whisky lemonade.” This was very, very upsetting and I do not intend to visit Yardbird again.
Be extra careful and triple-check what your ordered at this restaurant!!
Food is excellent, but not including a service charge is unacceptable.
Tipping has been shown to be both racist and sexist, so encouraging the practice in a city where it is not the norm is totally inexcusable.
Way too expensive and simply doesn’t live up to the hype or the queue. There are a couple of hundred restaurants in HK serving better food, with better service (the hostess is great but some of the serving staff were indifferent at best) and for less money so it’s hard to find too many positives.
I’ll give some examples… 185 HKD for a stingy Aperol spritz, 150 HKD for 4 tiny florets of cauliflower (tasty, but come on!!), 110 HKD for a selection of pickles that anyone can make better at home. The list goes on…
Maybe we just landed on a bad night. seeing as most of the other reviews are solid, but I don’t think so, unless the food quantity and quality was also having an off night?
I won’t be returning or recommending this place.
We waited an hour for udon. They should probably mention that it takes an hour to make an udon. Visited here for a quick snack and we ended up staying here for 2 hours – including 1 hour waiting for the udon. We should have visited a French restaurant instead. Worst choice of the night.
If you are a tourist, you probably won’t get how transcendent this place is in a world of Hong Kong mediocrity. Yardbird is world class in so many ways, it defies time and place. Sublime cocktails and thoughtful Hitachino beer selection. Be the chicken.
Some stuff was outstanding (duck fried rice) other things were okay and a little redundant (some of the yakitori)
香港市中心的奇妙寺廟絕對是地鐵站
Probably the only yakitori I’ve ever been to that doesn’t smell smokey. Delicious food. Hong Kong pricing for yakitori ain’t cheap.
Great food, gorgeous atmosphere. Very post work high end drinks sort of feel, a bit expensive but food was really worth it. Service was fantastic. It does get packed pretty quickly and they won’t give you your table until you’re entire party has arrived so come early!
Loved the food, service was excellent and attentive. Grilled skewers were delicious, as are everything else we ordered tonight.
Yakitori / Asian fusion place in Central HK. The chicken skewers are great (you can pick and choose from the various chicken parts). The non-chicken items are standard good / what you would expect from this sort of Asian fusion place – favorites were the sweet corn tempura and the KFC (fried cauliflower). Usually quite a long line so would recommend going early.
Pricy but amazing atmosphere, trendy place to hang , awesome team that work there, food is yummm, KFC is the bomb and the corn dish
Kind of overrated, the dishes are small and expensive, not as special as you would think.
Friendly staff, good range of drinks and food.
One of my favorite restaurants in HK
Yardbird is always a delight.
Yes it’s slightly pricey and things can get out of hand considering you’re paying upwards of 40hkd for a skewer of meat – but the great vibes, excellent service, and amazing food makes up for it, and you don’t even realize you’re plonking down 600hkd for a random weeknight dinner.
All the skewers are good but the favs are the tsukune (although it was better at the old location), any of the innards, the neck, the oyster, the wings, oh god the list could go on forever.
Other than the skewers, the other dishes are pretty good too – corn fritters and fried cauliflower are great, yellow tail salad is a refreshing change of scenery from the endless meat train, the katsu sando is happiness in 3 bites.
I do think that quality and attention to detail has dropped slightly since they moved location – sneaky suspicion that there’s less cartilage than previous renditions, but I’m still giving this place 5 stars so.. go figure.
Probably one of the best yakitori joints outside of Japan.
Good for: date night, fun date night, overseas guests, drinks and bites, when you don’t know where else to go
I’m really scratching my head to try to understand why people like this place so much. The best part of the restaurant is the vibe and atmosphere. It is really lively and a fun energy radiates through this place.
The food on the other hand is really mediocre. If this is the first time you have had yakatori then I can see some rationale being impressed by the food. I can’t imagine anyone from Japan giving this place a high rating. I’m not a purist when it comes to Japanese food. I love Okra and Haku and just was really disappointed with my dining experience. Of all the restaurants to expand internationally, I can’t believe this is the one that will be opening in Los Angeles.
My 2 star rating is based on the following:
Food: 2 stars
Environment: 4 stars
Service: 2 stars
Value: 1 star
I had chicken skewers from various parts of the chicken. I would say the chicken meatball is the best one, but I have definitely had better. I would advise against ordering the Brussels sprouts here. This dish was a big fail. The sprouts were tough and bitter at the center.
The Korean fried cauliflower was good but in my opinion is nothing that special. The price point for everything was way too high. Definitely not a place I’m coming back. I am even skeptics of trying Ronnin because it is the same group.
Went there yesterday. awesome katsu sando and yakitoris. Great food and welcoming atmosphere! l’d definitely visit here when i come back to HK again👍 …
It is not usual yakitori. It is top class yakitori-style chicken fine cuisine. Worth the price.
What can I say about Yardbird that hasn’t already been said about Yardbird.
This place is dope. D-O-P-E. Dope.
Watch your wallet because you will dish out willingly and joyfully as the sake flows and you hurry to order more inner thighs and ventricles before someone else dares to take the last of them. How dare they?!
Guess I’ll just have to come back next week…
Abnoxiously loud music and small portions. Food did taste good, but as an overall experience it was not enjoyable
Err…seriously, save the bucks. Overhyped. Overpriced. Over-noisy.
A hipster yakitori restaurant which moved to Sheung Wan a while back. The atmosphere was great and service was excellent. Favourites include the sweet corn tempura and the ume thighs.
One minor setback was a huge cockroach that we saw roaming on the wall below the menu, and one of the waitresses killed it quite quickly. But it’s summer in HK so it’s quite humid and the area is kind of “hipster” and being “gentrified” so it might not be entirely due to hygiene issues with Yardbird.
Amazing. The wing tips changes my idea of yakitori.
KFC!!!
Good food … not fine dining. Great vibe. Worth a visit when in Hong Kong .
Brought two friends to try because it’s near to my office. Drinks were nice and food was ok. My friend was really offended by the bar tender with an attitude, expensive but not a happy experience. I was disappointed because I was hoping to bring my friends to have a good time and I myself wanted to try since it was on bridges street.
Quite possibly one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Not to mention it’s an awesome vibe with an excellent staff.
Stylish, popular izakaya-style eatery offering grilled, skewered chicken dishes & unique cocktails.
Excellent, great food, fast and professional service.
Very attentive bartender!
Super atmosphere… is that enough? 💪
Good job …
Awesome food l. wonderful friendly welcoming staff. had a great experience alone.
Best chicken in HK. Music a little loud
It’s the best kept secret until now
Always need to quit during dinner peak, we were lucky to walk in earlier.
