Don’t normally leave reviews but personally felt misled by the high rating on this. Overpriced and pretentious with rude staff
Been here 3 times and chicken meatball is hands down amazing, especially with the dipping sauce!!! Most recently we tried the clams yakisoba which is a special that exceeded our expectations – please make this a regular item on the menu!! Drinks here are always fantastic quality. Yardbird is on the pricey side but kind of normal for yakitori. I will for sure return because the food is worth it!
Hard to book and only allow 1.5 hr seating! Apparently if you do not book the first round many food will sold out by the second round seating. Well worth the price, good vibe, everything is tasty, service great. Must try (based on the limited items we have tasted) is the meal ball and sweetcorn ball. 1.5 hours is more than enough for us, as service is quick and we tried everything we wanted to already within that time.
Everything was so good! My fav one is the sandwiches.. love it!
Consistently one of the best restaurants in Hong Kong in the past 10 years. Top

Cool vibe. Succulent skewers served. Love the varieties. Flavourful seasonings and fresh meats used. Tho would prefer to be seated at the front hall, with taller tables and bar. The one at the back with open kitchen was quite smokey. Got a small sachet each of their spices when we checked out. Will definitely come back for dishes that I didn’t get to try this time!
Subpar yakitoris if you know what good ones taste like.
After moving to the building above Yardbird 2 months go, I decided to finally give it a try after COVID lockdown was lifted and truth be told, I was unimpressed. I’ve had Toriki (also 1 star Michelin) in Tokyo and the bill was half the price while the food was twice as tasty.
I think for a yakitori joint to charge the price that Yardbird charges, the chef will have to either use simple seasoning to bring out the quality of the meat (which Toriki did), or introduce his own unique flair to the food – unfortunately I found neither to be true at Yardbird, and it was just marginally better than some of the more commercial yakitori joints in town. On top of that, most of the skewers we had were on the saltier side, notwithstanding the fact that I usually have a heavy palate.
Service was alright and attentive, but I don’t think I’ll come back again for the food.
their yakitori are superb, it was cooked just right, so crisp yet tender, also a vast selection of highball as well as other drinks
Food is nice, but the music is too sound. We can hardly have a conversation over the dinner. Not recommended for a date, though it could be a good choice for big group gathering.
When my husband asked what I wanted my first dinner in HK to be when I got out of my QO, I immediately had yard bird on my mind. However, we weren’t lucky enough to find a good timing in terms of reservation, and only made it to the second one at 10pm, so most of the stuff we wanted to try was sold out- like the Inner thigh and oysters Yakitori and the chicken sando. ☹️
The interior was spacious, with ample space between each tables, even though it was crowded it felt comfortable. We were greeted with a loud atmosphere and had to readjust ourselves for awhile, after being settled for abit, the loud atmosphere turn into background noise and wasn’t much of a problem.
We started off with the corn tempura, the batter was light and crispy, seasoned with sea salt and pepper. It was followed by the Yakitoris – Which we ordered meatball yakitori & thigh yakitori. The meatball yakitori is served with dipping sauce of tare and egg yolk – this was hands down the best thing so far. The meat was soft and tender, nothing you expect out of a typical meatball. The exterior of the meatball was painted with light grill marks that was met with a nice crispy charred taste. We then had thigh Yakitori (no pictures), that was seasoned and dribbled with Tokyo negi and tare. We had fried chicken as a finisher, which was served with a side of garlic kewpie mayo and lemon. Yummy sauce and the fried chicken was bite sized, it was a little too much fried food for us but the sauce made it so addictive.
Overall, really good experience for quality food and would come back again especially to try the things that were sold out.
Yardbird is one of best yakitori place in Hong Kong. They moved to this way more spacious spot than their old one back at bridges St. Super friendly staff and amazing food. Definitely a chill place which you can come anytime with your friends. Good selection of wine and music.
Fantastic food and the best customer service in Hong Kong , staff were genuinely nice and caring about your visit.
Yes it’s a little pricey but the food is excellent whilst as mentioned the service is 2nd to none , well done to this business for doing what do many in HK struggle with , special shout out to our server who really looked after me and my wife on our anniversary.
The food and service were abysmal. It used to be good but I guess now they take their customers for granted. Birdie is so much better in value, service and taste.
Music was way too loud and people had to talk even louder. Even Apple Watch warned me about that – it was above 90 decibel
super ridiculous service, waiters there with tattoos then thought they were hypebeast model, what an attitude
Yardbird was always my go to restaurant.
Fun vibe, great food and kind staff.
Love the Tempura corn, meat ball, mushroom rice as always.
A bit disappointed with the service with my last visit. No one offered the menu, no one tried to explain the menu, it took a while to have someone notice us. Sadly the wait staff who assisted our table was not very attentive. At the end the staff just gave us the bill didnt say anything.
Consistently faultless – I have a list of favourite dishes and have never gone wrong, on top of cheerful, helpful and personality-filled service. The meatball (shown), bicep, oyster and liver are favourites from the yakitori menu; and the chicken skin rice, and fried cauliflower is a must order. They do get busy so recommend booking but I’ve also walked in (early) and been seated. If you’re eating as a pair, some of their more popular menu items come available in a half-serving size so that you can try more things!
Who knew a chicken had so many tasty parts!
Better value and dining experiences elsewhere.
Japanese skewer is very much in fashion now and skewer restaurants are ubiquitous. This restaurant is renowned after being ranked as Michelin one-star. For your first-time visit, please note that its main entrance locates at Wing Lok Street.
The barbecued chicken in Japanese style is not made of frozen meat, but fresh ones. You will not taste the taste of frozen food but the unique amour of barbecued food. The tender of inner meat can be maintained when its juicy texture has been locked by its crispy layer. Its spice is on good balance.
The sweet corn tempura can be served in half-set (HKD60 for 2 pieces) but not shown on the menu, better ask the waiters. Its signature dishes include the meatball served with fresh egg yolk and thyroid. The latter one is rare in other restaurant of same kind but always flies off the shelves.
Japanese high-ball is the perfect match for its food.
The aroma of each skewer make its so mouthwatering when dishes are served. But you also really taste the flavors from cooking over charcoal.
My personal favorite is the corn tempura and KFC, unique twist which i’ve only seen at this restaurant.
For skewers they have a variety of unique chicken cuts worth trying especially ventricle and neck skin. For less adventurous eater the meatball is a must.
More on the pricier side ($5xx-8xx/pp) but worth trying. However drinks/cocktail wise would skip on it.
環境氣氛都幾好,嘢食都唔錯,當中不能錯過嘅sweet corn tempura, hot chicken skin, Meatball yakitori 都真係幾好食
Yardbird used to be my favorite. I still go back pretty often but I will stop doing that now. Every single time I’ve been back in 2021 (since today is 2022), service has gotten worse and worse. Food is still just as yummy, but somehow someone always forgets to bring all the food, or the bill magically includes some items we didn’t order. Just make sure you double check the bill.
We were there last night. The below menu costed HKD 770 per head. Mind you this was sharing for the table, so it’s not even like one person gets a full skewer or full plate of each order. That’s ok. Yardbird is known for being pricy.
But why I’m giving so few stars is because they didn’t even serve all the food last night.
I get it there were a lot of guests, but how likely is that all 6 people on the table did NOT recall getting served 3 out of 7 yakitori. Instead of just serving us the last 3 skewers, this Indian lady (didn’t get her name) came out to insist she was the one who put the last 3 skewers on one plate for a table or 6 on the table for us. And that the last 3 skewers wasn’t one each per person. All 6 of us were supposed to share just those 3 skewers (whereas the first 4 was one skewer per person). Ridiculous for this price no?? And she also insisted because we didn’t touch the last 3 skewers at all, she took it away and then served the ice cream. Even if this were true, why would you do that without asking us?
I was at my seat pretty much the whole night once the food started coming. So I know that’s a total lie. The last 3 skewers never came because I took a photo of everything that arrived at our table, and also because we were party of 10, partitioned into 4 and 6, so when the first 4 skewers all came in 2 plates of 5 and 5, we constantly had to reach over to the table next to us to get the extra skewer on their table. This process didn’t happen for the last 3 skewers, because the food never came.
Yardbird…I’m super disappointed in you.

My Top 3 Yakitori in Hong Kong!

Overpriced, overhype. Had to stand and eat for the first hour even though I had reservation.
meets balls were nice and the place looked nice
Just chicken. Really not the same vibe or atmosphere as 2010…
Food is ok but the seat is very uncomfortable
Solid spot in HK

Oh yeah, it’s as good as everyone says. No reservations, so get there early to get a seat – doors open at 6pm. The new location is awesome – significantly larger than the last location and they even have multiple urinals in the washroom at this one! I am a big fan of the organs and unusual offerings – it all tastes like chicken, so don’t be afraid to explore. The KFC and corn balls are must order items. On the pricey side, so don’t expect it to be a cheap meal, but it will definitely be delicious.
Update on 01DEC22: Still delicious, same awesome service, still full. Happy to see they offer online reservation booking now.
Very good food.

Strong recommend. The chicken meatballs are particularly tasty. Popular items do sell out so be sure to get there early enough the enjoy! 5/5

Would give it 0/5 if I could. Service was extremely slow and while food was ok, the wait + price was not worth it.

Very overrated and over-priced. There’s nothing special about this place and the only thing that was tasty was the chicken meatball. Everything else tasted okay. We had a reservation but no one acknowledged me even though I stood in front of the counter in front of them for a good amount of time. Also, the music was as loud as that of a club, we had to yell to have a conversation. No one in our party had positive comments. There are plenty of great options at this price point and I’ve had much better quality yakitori in HK. Not sure why people rave about this place and I honestly don’t think true foodies that know what good yakitori is would recommend it.

Delicious but overpriced skewers. The ones with tare are really salty, as well as the brussel sprouts with black garlic sauce (had to as the server to get a replacement order with much reduced sauces). Agree with most other comments, that this place is great for drinks and chatting, but the food is definitely over priced for what you get, feel like the quality could be improved, especially on the saltiness control- really wondered if the chefs had tasted all the good they produced.

It’s just 8:00 PM, most of the skewers have been sold out, which makes me and my friends very disappointing.
Other than that, the food is very average.
