Very disappointed. I had heard many good reports about TMK, but my experience is a complete mismatch.
The concept is great and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. No problems there. But the food is not done well. The tuna pizza idea was probably the worst food I have seen in Hong Kong for a long time. The idea of placing small pieces of tuna with lettuce and mayo on a circle of nacho chips really isn’t Japanese food, neither is it good quality. At HKD78, this is not super overpriced for this type of restaurant, but considering you need 4-6 items at this price or more for two people, then it starts to get expensive for what is essentially sophisticated children’s food. Note the cabbage salad is also HK$68 and I mistook the serving for a free side dish.
The sashimi is poor. Costing $198 for 10 thinly sliced pieces and the quality is just so so. Note that the Japanese takeaway just along the road in SYP sells much higher quality sashimi at less than a third of the price. Hand rolls were quite okay, hence two stars. Sadly, I would not come here again, I think they have a good idea, but with a very bad execution. Hong Kong would benefit from having cool restaurants in this style, but the food need to be more down to earth, and straight forward and without feeling like you’ve had your wallet assaulted in the process.
Good rolls but kinda pricey for the quality
Nice place to stay stuff is so friendly and so comfortable and delicious foood
Fun vibe with great music casual dining. Very good for some light snacks and drinks. Tuna Hotdog is the ultimate comfort Food.
Great place to try 🍣 sushi with some other Japanese Fusions🌮. …
i thought it was a sake and hand roll bar,but it’s not, there are hand rolls, but it’s not just a hand roll restaurant, they also have a lot of other japanese dishes. great service , great music, and good food. nice deco also, will go back from time to time for sure!
The food took a bit too long
I’m very happy to have visited this restaurant.
LOCATION: it’s really cool and unique, it seems a piece of London in Hong Kong, full of stickers everywhere it’s really POP! The seat are not super comfortable but it’s a place for young people that it’s worth to try.
FOOD: the Location is not the best thing in this place, the food is amazing. It’s a mix of different way of making sushi but it’s delicious and very difficult to find.. I love this please and I suggest to the people that is visiting Hong Kong to come here and have a dinner.. it’s a beautiful and cool experience!
#cool #alternative #eliteSushi
I was lucky enough to stop by here on what happened to be their opening night and enjoyed a fantastic set meal – Denim – packed with colour and sass. Everything tasted fresh, with punchy flavours and interesting twists. Who knew sashimi and punk were so perfectly matched?
I’ve been to TMK twice before and had a pleasant experience. Today was my third time and i had a horrible experience. Perhaps they change their staff or management but we felt like we were constantly being rushed by the waitress to finish our food – it was extremely uncomfortable and it ruined the whole dining experience despite decent food quality.
It was so bad that the waitress would even try and take our food away with food still leftover on our plate. And they did this repeatedly!
in addition, we arrived at 7:30 and probably didnt order until 7:45-7:50. We ordered the all you can drink that lasts for 90 minutes, and at 9pm before the end time, the waitress already told us it was the last order and just kept rushing us to eat our food.
As a previous happy customer who actually enjoyed TMK, i am really disappointed with my most recent experience here. Goodbye.
Nice atmosphere, but bad food
非常好,音樂更好
First off, I want to say that the quality of the food we got was delicious, everything tasted great and looked good.
But.. If you come here don’t order the all you can eat/all you can drink for 90 minutes.
All of the food came very slowly and at one point they said that we had drank all we could have drank but we barely had appetizers… Past that we tried to negotiate more food but they said we would get one more plate and a desert…
So lesson learned, if you come here, come for the atmosphere and the food but avoid the all you can eat menu.
A cool and funky casual eat-out with delicious fusion dishes!
日本風格的小型餐廳,非常私密,光線昏暗,不幸的是,儘管是一月份,但還有空調。都很好吃,但熏制的日本蘑菇比其他的還要好。非常細心的工作人員,準備充分,友善且有趣,不會打擾。
Food was fantastic. All staff were really friendly and nice. Food being suggested were really good. Loved it.
Definitely not a quiet place, TMK has a loud punk rock vibe thanks to its style and music. We chose the $500 ‘chef’s choice’ meal including free flow sake (fried chicken, sashimi, temaki, dessert, it has it all).
Small and cozy, it’s a great place for a fun night out
Great funky place, with great food and an option for free flow sake! If you’re looking for something different for dinner this is the place. We had a great guy serving us, very friendly and entertaining. One minor thing to criticize is the manager, could be a bit friendlier and accommodating. Other than that great place! Definitely recommend
Interesting place!
Great Western style fried sushi, the seating is not the most comfortable but the restaurant has a nice vibe
Surprisingly damn good, all round. Quite hard to pull of a Punk Sushi joint successfully, but TMK have done it. Great food, atmosphere, service, music, drinks, and even great price. Hard for me to think of another restaurant in Hong Kong that scores on all those levels.
Fabulous!
Attentive service.
Really cool place if you’re into rock vibes, the food was great and fresh. but the wait was long and things came slow.. we went there at 930 hoping seating would be available but eventually sat down at 10.
We ordered between 2ppl:
hamachi, tataki, karaage, fried squid, salmon roll, wagyu roll, spicy tuna, tuna hotdog, salmon hotdog. Everything met up to my expectations. Y’all can also check out the menu on their site.
AMAZING food, cant wait to go back!
Newly opened, this is the latest restaurant from Pirata Group. Fun and lively Punk Rock meets Sushi concept.
They specialize in maki rolls and have a bunch of inventive offerings.
The Tuna Hotdog is definitely a must have. Their take on a Cali roll, deep fried and cut open to make room for tuna cubes. It has the right balance of crispy, creamy and spicy.
As experienced in other Pirata outposts, the service from Prapti and the rest of the team was super friendly and really makes the relaxed, fun atmosphere possible.
Fantastic drinking bar with friends and family
Super fun experience! Love the gong :)))
A very funky Japanese bar in sheung wan. you can’t book but this small place holds quite a few people. the food is fresh and delicious. we liked the California roll that we rolled ourselves full of crab. the fried squid was also perfect ~ crunchy and not over cooked with a bit of spiciness. these dishes went well with the sake (although it is described as being white chocolate. don’t be put off. it was nothing like chocolate). the service is very efficient and helpful. the cool stickers, motor bike and high tables all add to the atmosphere. it’s a great place to visit.
Very disappointing. Limited menu and poor execution. Way too salty. Fish had the sour taste that comes from age. Too much mayo on the menu. I was warned that everything had Wasabi and was that ok. Wasabi was fake and in any case none was on any of my dishes. Roll your own maki concept was gimmicky and the ingredients were on the wrong part of the nori to roll. The punk concept was trite and the music was terrible. Ditto for the loud greeting when you come in. I won’t be back. All that said though, the highball was solid and the karage was decent. Everything else was a disaster.
At first glance, you might think that it’s some overhyped westernised sushi bar. But can assure you the food is authentic, yet a little playful. Worth a visit
Super fun location. The food is good, but the atmosphere is better than the food.
Good food and good vibes!!!
Wow! That was Fun. TMK is the funky new rork’n roll sake and hand roll restaurant in Sheung Wan. The place looks fantastic, its bold and LOUD. The menu offers amazing value for money, we choose the set menu for $500 which included so many courses I lost count, did I mention is also includes free-flow sake?! All of which were delightful.
We loved the lay-out of the venue, its small but very cozy. We were seated at the high-table next to the bar and semi-open kitchen, which made for a really engaging experience with the team. Elerin, the manager, is such a fantastic person! She absolutely made out dinner one to remember!
TMK is fun, loud, delicious and offers great value for money!
In love with this place, Japanese fusion food with American style interior design, and the best service! Craving at that tuna hotdog and sushi platter! 🥰 …
Nice atmosphere, decent food
We ordered the dinner set but my husband was still hungry after having the whole set. We may like the next door Honjo more? Sake here is very nice. I’m missing Japan
Best Wednesday dinner deals! Wasabi Wednesdays is in my weekly rotation !
Fantastic service and manager has a great sense of humor lol. Divey and loud place, very closely seated bar food and drinks type of place. If you’re looking for proper sit down fine dining, head next door to Honjo. We had the mohawk (no-brainer chef’s selection set dinner) but wasn’t overly impressed. It seemed like every fish dish was the same 2 fishes over and over again (salmon and hamaki). However, we had one vegetarian and I think they did an amazing job coming up with the veg versions of everything. Well done to the team. You come here for the party vibe not so much the food so enjoy the great selection of sake and get buzzed!!!
Avoid the brunch at all cost.
The portions were extremely small and the starter was some kind of shredded cabbage salad with absolutely no dressing on it so it taste like the stuff they line your plates with/decorative cabbage.
The ‘potato salad’ was basically an unseasoned dollop of mash potato with a squeeze of Japanese mayo/kewpie on the side. It was very cold, bland and unpleasant.
After waiting for 90mins, the final course of hand rolls never came. So after chasing the waiting staff several times, they brought me and my boyfriend one hand roll between the two of us. It tasted nothing special and at this point i wish i had gone to Genki Sushi and would have been fed better than this.
After chasing another time for the handroll, the waitress offered us this spare handroll which has been sat out for 30 minutes on another table to us. We were so hungry we would have eaten it but we declined because of hygiene reasons.
The dessert never came.
We paid $280+10% + 1 hour free flow for the pleasure.
Free flow was great – if you want to get drunk and listen to loud music in a dark place but not eat much this is a great place to go. 5 stars for the drinks.
Fine Japanese dining coupled with punk music and dive bar aesthetics. Makes me feel nostalgic about the UK!
Food was great, highly recommend the set dinner menu for 2. Will definitely return soon and will check out its sister venue in Wan Chai. 😋🥢
(photos could be better but was super hungry)
Great Japanese food for fast service and low price .May be hard to locate tho…
Awesome food, friendly staff and great music.
Love the food and service here. It services Japanese-American fusion food hence pretty popular amongst foreigners. Highly recommend the mohawk (tasting) menu everything was great from their recommendations. It came with edamame 👌, chicken karaage👍, cabbage salad👍, hamachi👍👍, wagyu tataki👍👍, spicy tuna sushi👍, salmon sushi👍, montaiko udon👌, hamachi tomato handroll👌, tuna hotdog👍👍 and green tiramisu👍.
My favorites was the hamachi, wagyu tataki and tuna hotdog. The only one I didn’t enjoy was the handroll which was cause the seaweed was a bit damp and hence wasn’t crisp enough. Taste wise nothing much to really complain about the menu. Definitely will visit again!
Came here for restaurant week and both food, service and vibes were excellent (although not all the tunes were Punk I would say)! Loved the creative yuzu flavours and sake to go with it. Would only advise that the cabbage salad dressing be reduced as it is a bit excessive! Tuna hot dog, wagyu and hamachi tataki were stand out!
Great tasting food
Great Lunch experience, food was amazing and just the right amount. Service was impeccable and extremely efficient. We will be back that’s for sure.
Great service, good vibe and fab food.
Good food. Great staff. Very lively ambience. Music is too loud in my opinion. If you like Hard Rock Cafe style of a restaurant, then this is your place.
Amazing service and vibe. Visited for lunch and for dinner – both were great. We did ala carte for dinner as there were certain menu items we wanted to try. But if you’re not picky, the food and drink package is great value for money!
