Awesome spot…if you can find it.
A relaxing night
A different take on modern Japanese food. Quite good raw and cooked dishes, and a fantastic sake and beer collection. They even have their own Yardbird sake (this is the same group as the fabulous yardbird as well)
Great food and selection is drinks . Sushi was melt in the mouth standard
Recommend a visit .
Great bar/restaurant. Food although excellent is very expensive however drinks were both excellent and reasonable.
The ambiance is great. A great cozy little cocktail bar serving refreshing drinks. I got the akafuda highball which was great on a sweltering June night. The door is unmarked and there’s no name visible from the street – you need to just go up and open it to enter – very speakeasy-esque. Perfect way to cap a delightful evening.
Essentially an upscale izakaya with small, medium, large plates of food. Nice vibe and ambience, great staff!
Overall food was good – loved the sashimi, pigeon, tempura anago, kagoshima beef to name a few!
The uni and crabmeat dish looked really good but disappointed me somewhat – felt the uni could be fresher!
Omakase很好
Great food, cocktails and service. The sashimi was fabulous. A perfect evening!
Tasty jap food
Not sure if that was completely worth the price. Starts off with making you hunt for the place as there is no sign of windows. Look for the 8 On Wo Lane sign that is actually lit, Ronin is the sliding grey door directly to the right of that with a small wooden handle. After that little adventure we were greeting with a very knowledgeable and accommodating staff. Go for the tasting menu if it’s your first time there as you’ll probably end up spending that much anyways. Overall very pricey for what it is in my opinion but the excellent service makes up for that. No table dining here just bar seating all around.
Great food, great Sake. Too expensive for what it offers. Recommended for the experience.
Izakaya meets speakeasy. Superb food, albeit comes at a price. Great service. I’d give it 5 stars, but for two sight gripes: given the prime seating is around the bar, very little actually happens there so it feels a little anticlimactic; and no craft beer choices (yes, I get that it’s trying to be Japanese in style – so import some decent ones, not the mass produced flavourless stuff that can be picked up anywhere in the world).
Amazing service, delicious food.
Ronin is a Japanese izakaya tapas restaurant that serves mainly seafood in a creative fashion. While it is undeniable the dishes were creative, it most certainly is not worth the prices they charged. I have travelled to Japan extensively and could tell straight away that the fish was not sliced properly and was therefore overly chewy. Sometimes the flavoring overwhelmed the fish itself which probably makes sense as the fish may not have been the freshest. All in all, I did not think that this restaurant deserves the acclaim it has and certainly the price point is totally misguided.
Is the food good and innovative? Yes. Does it warrant the prices? In my personal opinion no. The fish is shipped from Japan so if that is something you are willing to pay a little extra for, then it might be worth it. The ambiance is a hip modern minimalistic industrial. Waiter is quite knowledgeable and ready to make suggestions. Enormous whiskey selection.
Mixed results.
Great place for quality sushi counter top style so make sure it’s only with a friend or at most two
Exceptional food in a cosy sapce
在東京康拉德酒店推出。外國人經營的日本料理和日本威士忌店。
在有冰塊的岩石上。
Really cool place, entrance is hidden as the restaurant is completely unlabeled. And you must slide open a grey looking door. Food was good, cocktails were good. A little pricey.
Excellent food, great atmosphere, amazing staff. We went with the 10 course omakase, it is the way to go ad you will taste almost everything they have on the menu. It’s a pricey place but worth it.
Wonderfully surprising
One of my favorite food experiences with modern serene speakeasy vibe. Food to talk about for months. Trust Mamta to bring her suggestions for outstanding culinary tour. Mamta and Gail’s care equally noteworthy. Sake selection stellar. Gorgeous place. One not to miss. Food as delicious as it is beautiful.
This is amazing JP food. Ask for chief recommend menu .
Seafood-based cousin of Yardbird. Modern Japanese dishes with a rotating omakase menu. Most dishes are umami packed but always a dish or two that are over seasoned.
The most innovative & delicious eating experience i have ever had the pleasure to enjoy..The team so welcoming, friendly & professional..made it so easy to relax …always anticipating with excitement what taste sensations each course would bring. Presentation & flavours were beautiful, subtle & precise. The confidence, knowledge & history the bartender & floor team willingly shared with any diner about the drinks & food offered was outstanding..their genuine passion to share this knowledge is something i have never encountered before. Very entertaining watching the bartender!! & never too busy to explain what he was doing when we asked. Well done Ronin!! Be back for sure..Jeannie Christian-O’Rourke
Quality food and excellent service. Price is on the high side but definitely value for money. A good selection of Japanese Whiskeys.
Special daily menu. Can be pricey.
Very cute restaurant definitely ate very well, the staff very helpful! Had a fun time finding it though 🙂
I visited Ronin this evening with some friends. I will *never* return and I recommend that you avoid this establishment. I was horribly embarassed when the waiter instructed us to wait outside in the street if we wanted to be served drinks (eventually). We were a presentable group of four professionals and had gone to Ronin for a high-quality whisky after dinner, before parting ways and going home. I was hugely embarassed and we left immediately.
one no hair guy staff is low level attitude But another lady staff are good and sake bar is very nice I will go again!
One of my favorite omakase restaurants in hk
Amazing Japanese food, great service and lovely drinks selection. Just tell them what you do and don’t like and they’ll choose the dishes. And make sure you pop to the bathroom as their scented candles are amazing (thankfully, you can buy them)
Amazing izakaya and seafood restaurant. Had the market tasting menu. Loved the flower crab with uni, Kagoshima beef and fresh sashimi.
Amazing food! Lots of dishes are seasonal and people are kept ordering food from pictures in Google which is quite interesting
Cozy place for sake and small dishes. Great service.
Worth the effort to make a reservation and find the place.
Wow! Secret bar with awesome food which is opened until midnight. No name tag on the street. Good luck finding. It is definetly worth it.
Great place for special occasions. We had the beef, and the crab, both were amazing. The drink list is cast and they do their own infused sochu which are worth trying. Try the coffee infused one.
I had a great experience! It’s not traditional Japanese, but more of a fusion. I especially enjoyed the sashimi platter and the uni with panko bread crumbs. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed and other guests seemed to be having a comfortable dining experience. I think I’d be able to come here by myself for a drink as well. However, the last dish, the yaki-udon, the noodles weren’t cooked through and a bit hard for my liking. For those who ordered the yaki-udon you may want to ask the staff about the texture!
Loved Ronin!! It’s behind an unmarked door, but walk through and a world of culinary delight is opened. Small dishes that’s great for sharing. Amazing tastes and a smashing wine, and sake selection. Definitely smart to book ahead. Oh yeah and try their coffee infused Shochu. Bring a bottle home even.
This was such a special and intimate experience. The food is amazing and the staff so welcoming and friendly. How cool! Can’t wait to go back when next in Hong Kong
Very good food and cosy space. Nice for small group.
After the horrible disappointments at Michelin rated restaurants (including Bo Innovation), Ronin is a triumph, combining a beatnick/speakeasy environment with knowledgeable and approachable staff. Oh yeah…and the food rocks. I can’t tell you how happy I am that this type of place exists in Hong Kong. From the bar tender to the wait staff to the chefs in the kitchen, it is clear that every single person who works at Ronin is passionate about their craft.
Wonderful experience with interesting foods and terrific service, once you find the entrance 😉 …
Delicious oysters
Amazing tastes and a smashing wine, and sake selection. Definitely smart to book ahead. Oh yeah and try their coffee infused Shochu. Bring a bottle home even.
Ronin was the last place my wife and I ate before leaving Hong Kong and I am so happy that we left the best for last. This is the only place in Hong Kong where the waiters and bartenders could reliable give us recommendations on the food and drinks, while taking into consideration subtle nuances of our palate along with our interest in trying new things.
This restaurant really special in so many ways. The food was amazing without question. However, that was not the most amazing aspect of the experience at Ronin. The attention to detail is what stands out for me the most, the decor is somehow modern and traditional at the same time. Plus the incredible collection of sakes and Japanese whiskies, all work in harmony to give you an incredible dinning experience.
