An Asia top 50 and it took me more than two weeks to score a table but it was a disappointment! The starting is strong with a great drink list and very innovative sashimi, the seasoning of them are just right, not over-powered and bring out the freshness of the seafood. However, the rest of the night is a 180 U-turn, all the cooked dishes are way too salty and overpowered, they do have great products and idea but the execution is really really really sub-par. It’s been an hour and after a bowl of ice cream but I can still feel the torture to my taste buds.
Great food but got the same seat 2 visits in a row with airconditioning blowing on my head without a solution.
pretty good. probably deserves 4 stars for the awesome whiskey selection.
One of the best meals I had in Hong Kong. The ‘lighter’ food selection was fantastic. great atmosphere and the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. will definitely return when i get the chance.
Absolutely fantastic food. The crab with uni, and wagyu stand out in particular. I do, however, suggest against getting a cocktail. It wasn’t anything special, and I wish I would have gotten a whiskey.
Nice fusion izakaya with good choice of sake
Oh Y E S !!
Oyster and Sashimi where of a quality that you just cannot get where I live. KFC Crabs where surprising in the best sense of the word and I don’t think it’s possible to cook a quail any more juicy. One of the sake served in the pairing kind of re-defined my understanding of what sake could taste like. Sitting at the bar the atmosphere is very relaxed. Definite highlight of my trip to Hong Kong!!
So compliments to the kitchen and a big thank you to the service who where super nice, professional and made me feel very welcome.
Amazing. Show up early if you want the bar seats non reserved.
A very low key bar. There is no sign for this place, I guess you just need to know. One of the most impressive collections of whiskey I’ve ever seen. I really liked the Nikka pure malt black. Definitely coming back. We didn’t eat but we had their chips which were great. Mason is the best most impressive conversationalist I have ever seen, so sad to hear he is an expat; he abcense is a great loss to the states.
Favorite Place in Hong Kong.
Simply loved it. The drinks were incredible, I never tried such good cocktails. And the food was as well perfect. Michelin style perfect. Great atmosphere, great music
For us the experience was really not satisfying. Waited on the floor stairs outside for our reserved seats, although they ask you upon reservation what are your food restrictions didn’t get any attention when we wanted to order. Service was slow and not passionate to our needs. Bottom line the level of food was not worth the price and we both felt nauseas after it.
Amazing dishes of fresh fish, expensive but worth it
Ronin is one of the sister restaurants of Yardbird, and are just as good. We ordered a sashimi platter, a flower crab and uni, and sukiyaki beef. The sashimi platter was delicious, and I loved the yuzu they added to some fish. The flower crab and uni was also decadent, yet the portion size was really too small for 490 dollar dish. Sukiyaki beef was too salty, and I wish the staff had told me to order rice with it. However the beef was marbled and melted in your mouth. The last star is deducted for the prices which are wayyy too inflated. They are famous for whiskeys at Ronin, and live up to the hype. Service is excellent.
The food is good but it’s way overpriced.
Not lived up to the hype. Portion is so small, and way too overpriced. Not my typical place that you spend $300 at, for bar food. We end up eating at McD after visit because it is not satiating meal
Delicious food and descreet / attentive service.
I’d say Ronin lived up to the hype. A great hidden spot. All bar seating. Had the chefs menu and really enjoyed it. The server behind the bar was exceptionally detailed in explanations of food and sake. It has a reputation as being pricey and indeed is, but doesn’t stop the crowds from coming.
Delicious
Simply fantastic! The food so amazing and friendly staff too – Roy was being so helpful and kind to us. We’re so happy and indeed the sake did slap us in the face 😁. Highly recommended and would love to be back again. …
Great place , amazing concept , good food – difficult to find but that’s part of the concept
A fantastic, tasty meal in a quaint setting. Staff were fantastic and friendly. Couldn’t have had a more enjoyable experience!
Fantastic meal, and good drinks. Detracting one star for value – if this doesnt matter, its a 5 star.
Always a pleasure to go there… Don’t want to say it’s great value and suggest it’s cheap… Just that you pay for what you get and the quality of the food is there. Shame they only do Japanese whisky which I have always felt being overpriced.
Was able to score a walk in when reservations were full. Friendly staff, very interesting food, and their drink selection is quite extensive. A bit pricey I would say, but worth the visit.
Very cool experience. Subtle decor and a gorgeous bar made for an intimate dining experience. That picture is ~15 pages of whiskey options. A few things to note: their menu changes all the time, let them know about any food restrictions/allergies at least 24-48 hours in advance, and be ready to try some whiskey! Although I should say, one of my favorite drinks was actually a gin highball recommended by the waiter. The staff is incredibly friendly, efficient, and fast. Communication was easy, attention swift, and drink recommendations on-point.
Ronin is a great place for a special date night, but also a dangerous place to spend your pay check if you love small plates or whisky or well-crafted food in general.
The dishes are usually faultless, with a seasonal rotation depending on what’s fresh at the market, with the exception of a few classics that have stayed on the menu.
Probably most well known for the uni and flower crab dish, piled high on an emptied crab shell – this dish is pretty, but personally more for instagram than for my tastebuds. It’s good, but there’re much better dishes on the menu for a fraction of the price you’ll be paying to post that one picture.
Great drink selection as well, especially if you’re a fan of whisky in general and Japanese whiskies I’m particular.
Good for: date night, your pescatarian friend, your friend who’s a Japanophile, or your Japanophile friend who’s a pescatarian
Awesome food and service
.My favorite Japanese restaurant in HK. But don’t expect to get sushi here. Sashimi and uni are wonderful
tasty and creative dishes w large selection of jpn whiskies
Creative take on japanese cuisine and wonderful choice of drinks. Very recommended!
Great sashimi! Innovative fusion restaurant with great collection of whiskey. crabmeat with uni was beautiful!
Modern Westernized Japanese cuisine… you would enjoy their food if you like innovation. The food is fresh and well executed but it comes with a price tag scewing towards the wealthy bunch.
Quite possibly the best izakaya in HK. Everything we ordered was superb, great sashimi, variety of sake, highballs and umeshu and the staff was super nice as well. 10/10 👌 …
It’s a black door to enter. There is no name. The food is fantastic. The ambience is exactly what you expect behind a black door and the service was 5 star. Will be back again for a left or centre Japanese experience.
Amazing food experience. It took us a couple of minutes to realise the unmarked black door was the restaurant.
Staff were extremely welcoming and gave very good advice regarding sake and food. Extensive whiskey selection. Would highly recommend.
Great clean place, great selection of beverages, great people just like Yardbird.
Food is a bit of hit or miss that night (5th June 2020)
These two dishes are worth trying. Flower crab with uni is truly awesome, the sashimi (cant recall name of type) salad is very refreshing.
We ordered two types of sashimi separately and one of them have this fishy smell to it. We ordered a piece each so I didnt bother to let the server know. Other fish on the same dish was normal.
If I have to compare the two, I will prefer Yardbird overall experience is different. I had been there at least a few dozen times since Bridge street and every visit was flawlessly great.
Sharing portions simple Japanese and a huge whisky selection
Food ist good (with small flaws). They offer a sake / whiskey pairing to the menu which I can recommend. Nice atmosphere, friendly service. Overall a solid recommendation.
Love the place!
It is our second time here and it has never disappointed us. The foods are amazing. They offer both a la carte and tasting set menu. Drinks are great and of course what can’t be missed is friendly staffs and the service.
Small,cozy restaurant-great food.
Amazing staff, amazing seasonal food w a menu that changes on the daily. Udon noodles almost brought tears to my eyes
The food is just heavenly!!! There is no word enough to describe it, from service to atmosphère its just perfect, top of the top! 😊 …
By far the best Japanese seafood restaurant in HK! We’ve been going regularly and for my birthday every year since it opened and it has never disappointed. Plus the service is incredible!
A true hidden gem
Great service, great food, bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Recommended
Amazing
One of the best meal experiences I have had in Hong Kong.
The restaurant is behind a very unassuming dark door, but the space inside is very warm and cosy.
The staff and super friendly and really know there stuff. I loved every choice of sake and the food that was associated with it.
It’s owned by the same people as yardbird and Il definitely be back again.
Staff are very friendly
Very good service and food. Plates was very original.
