My husband and I went to Honjo just a few weeks ago to celebrate his belated birthday and recent job promotion, Honjo was the perfect spot. The service was fabulous! Our server, Patience, and the general manager, Donal, were just absolute gems! We haven’t had such hospitable service in Hong Kong in a long time and here, we felt so welcomed, appreciated, and well taken care of.
As for the food, we ordered from the a la cart dinner menu; wagyu beef tataki, tuna cracker, hamachi, Camembert tempura, sushi and sashimi platter, and spicy tuna crunch. The food is a bit on the pricy side, but it’s delicious – and considering the great service and atmosphere, I was happy with the bill.
We also love a good cocktail and their drinks did not disappoint.
The cherry on top of the dinner, was that at the very end, they took a Polaroid for us and gave us a complementary dessert because I mentioned we were celebrating when I made my reservation.
Highly recommend this spot for good food, and great atmosphere and service! Great place to celebrate 🥳

Nice place, good service. We were there for Sunday brunch, the unlimited sushi and sashimi was ok. We’re disappointed that they didn’t have oysters. The mains were ok, nothing to write home about. The decor was nice, but you can’t see out the windows so it’s like being in a cave.

Honjo is a good place to enjoy fresh japanese food and oysters. A bit disapointed this time as we were coming for the oysters but no oysters were served. However, everything else was as good as I remember from my first experience there especially the fried chicken (karaage).

Wagyu Beef Tataki
Had the Valentine’s Day dinner set here. So delicious! Very high quality sashimi and steak/tempura/pork skewer. Only complaint is that the seats at the long table are not very comfortable and my back hurt after a long dinner.
I will definitely be back for brunch though, which I heard is free flow sashimi.
Very nice place to enjoy the finest Japanese food. Especially so if you have special hosts who insist on paying! …but worth it even if they don’t😂

A sharp drop off in quality… what happened ?
I had ‘The Dreamer’ menu and in short :
-the edamame was undercooked
-ordered an oyster and was presented with literally the smallest oyster in the world – I understand sizes can vary but I don’t know how any place with sense would serve that – see photo
– the wagyu tataki was cold but did not feel fresh, like it had been cut a day or two ago and taken out of the fridge right before being brought to the table
-random stuff fried in batter, dry inside, with a dip of plain soy sauce ?
-chicken of very average quality
-matcha lava dessert was just liquid inside, not lava
-the rest e.g. sushi, fried rice was acceptable at best, nothing satisfying.
Overall, very disappointed compared to my memories

Nice interior design, service is good. I’m disappointed on food as for the $498 +10% brunch I’m expecting something special. The entry is very ordinary, even the unlimited sushi. The main course, I picked the tempura and with only 2 pieces of shrimp with lots of vegetables. Dessert also is just a mixed fruits and brownies which nothing special. And no drinks included just water. 🤔🤔🤔
The food is SO good! We tried a lot of different items and they were all amazing!

Cool interior and a unique modern fusion on Japanese food. We got the dreamer tasting menu which is good price for all the dishes you get to try and left us very full afterwards. Service could’ve been a little better; we received some dishes out of order and without any explanation of what the dishes were. That may have been because we were seated in the main dining room instead of at the bar. Sushi was underwhelming and we liked the other dishes better. The matcha lava cake for dessert was amazing. Drinks were also very good, especially liked the smoky old fashioned. If you’re there for a special occasion you can make a note of it in your reservation and they’ll do a little something for you.

Found a good deal for restaurant week and was completely blown away. Would definitely return again. Highly recommend the Matcha Lava. A great place to celebrate a special occasion (be sure to note it when making a reservation), they’ll have a candle and even have a Polaroid photo along with the card signed by the whole team. The server also had the warmest voice singing Happy Birthday. They even include a gift coupon for any of the PIRATA group restaurants. I haven’t been to many PIRATA group restaurants, but none of them have disappointed me and HONJO is my favorite so far.

Booked via Restaurant week for lunch menu $198 pp. My friend and I are highly satisfied with their lunch. We start off with edamame, beef tataki and corn tempura. Beef tataki is lightly grilled but still raw inside. After marination, it is thinly sliced and served with shishito pepper and roasted rice. It is slightly spicy. The texture is fantastic. It is overall very impressive. Corn tempura is a bit greasy and the corn is not sweet and juicy enough. Sushi platter comes with 2 salmon sushi, 2 akami, 2 hamachi sushi and 4 spicy akami maki. The fish are soft and fresh. Then there comes another main, pork belly. Soft pork meat with a bit gelatinous fat portion with honey yuzu glaze, pairing with apple purée. Everything is just perfectly right. Finishing the 3-course lunch with matcha lava and yuzu sorbet. Sorbet is refreshing and sweet with tropical fruits. The most memorable dish is the matcha lava. It is piping hot so eating it with the vanilla ice cream is the only best option!!! The matcha flavour is intense and dipping the almond biscuit into the melty centre is the best move of the day. Highly recommended!!!

We went to the restaurant for brunch on weekend. Our table staff’s service was amazing!! I forgot to ask his name but his service was better than HK Michelin restaurants.
They have free-flow oyster(+66hkd??) I like it.

Located between Sheung Wan and Sai Ying Pun, Honjo is a high-end Japanese restaurant under the Pirata Group. The dim lighting and stylish environment make it perfect for special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries. So, this time, we celebrated with friends.
The most joyous moment was when we had the Matcha Lava dessert (Roasted white chocolate, vanilla ice-cream, soba cracker). The staff brought out a candle and took an instant photo for us, which was a pleasant surprise. The dessert itself was soft and thin, with a creamy and not-too-sweet matcha filling that paired well with the vanilla ice cream.
