We had an absolutely wonderful time at honjo. The food here is very very good and the service is fantastic. The waiters were eager to answer questions, help us order, and catered to our allergies. I highly recommend the tuna sushi sashimi platter, the steaks, the corn and the oysters. The berry dessert was phenomenal as well. We were tempted by the tasting but in the end decided to do a la carte. The ambience is vibrant and while it’s a busy restaurant, we did not feel rushed to finish like we often do in HK restaurants. Again, the service is exceptional here – we were celebrating our anniversary and they really went out of their way to make us feel special. I’m definitely going back, especially to try their maki !
Love the food, love the Japanese decor
This place was amazing. Very classy atmosphere. We’ve spent 1.5 hrs in this place during the HK resturant week, where they released a special menu in an affordable price.
Came here for Restaurant Week. Love the way the place is done up. Food is delicious and service is friendly. Definitely a date-night kinda place. Highly recommend!
Amazing service. Ambiance is great too. Some of the dishes (especially the fish) are really well cooked and tasty. But some dishes are just alright (not bad by any means – just not my cup of tea). All the staff were really switched on and attentive, which I find quite rare in Hong Kong these days. A very enjoyable meal. If you like fusion Japanese, this place is worth a visit.
The entrance could be easily missed but once inside, the decor and ambience make for a cozy yet sophisticated place to gather with friends. The food was of amazing quality and taste and service was top-notch with Donal and his team taking such good care of us! Will be back!
Fantastic service and great Japanese food with a bit of a modern twist. We went to celebrate our anniversary and they treated us exceptionally well. Cocktails and sake flight were very good.
Amazing food and great vibes. love the chic decor, the sushi are OK nothing too special, the all you can order cold dish is great news for seafood lovers. the hot dishes are delicious and well presented. We ordered 2 dozen of oysters before the main. My gf left her wedding ring on the table and the manager / staff was extremely nice to give us back the ring! Still very moved and shocked by his action…Brunch is fun! They have special Polaroid for the birthday girls. So thoughtful – A cool place to celebrate bday and hang our in big groups.
Honjo is a modern yet eclectic Japanese restaurant on Queen’s Road West. Opened by the Pirata Group last summer, this is a nice venue that makes for a quality dining experience in Sheung Wan. Opening hours are 6pm-12am daily with additional 12pm to 2.30pm (lunch) service on weekends. Reservations recommended.
Dining area is darkly lit, intimate but casual as well, making this a good place for date nights as well as gatherings with friends. Service is very good, attentive and timely. They were able to answer all questions we had regarding the dishes and ingredients used on the evening.
During our meal we tried the Traveller’s Tasting Menu which included 11 courses, including chef’s selection of small, raw, hot mains, tempura, sushi, sashimi and sides. Portion sizes are manageable and everything served was of very good quality.
Most enjoyed on the evening were the Cauliflower and Tuna Cracker small plates, Hamachi raw serving and the Wagyu striploin. Could have easily listed several more but these were what stood out the most.
We appreciated the waitstaff being able to explain each dish and the chef who came out to talk to us about a couple of signature dishes. This was a really nice touch.
In the end, everything served as part of the Traveller tasting menu was very good and we really liked the dining setup at Honjo. This is a great restaurant by the Pirata Group, a place that most will really enjoy when dining here.
Great Japanese restaurant well located in a vibrant neighborhood of Hong Kong. The food is of high quality with fresh ingredients and dished that are well executed and presented. Staff is friendly and the place gets busy quickly so you may want to book in advance!
The restaurant has a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff at the entrance were quick and efficient to usher me to my table. Mood and ambiance was very nice and the wait staff were very pleasant to talk to. They suggested a few dishes to try which we were unsure about.
Food was mainly very good. Tuna and Salmon sashimi were fresh and tasty. The tuna cracker and O-toro highly recommend. Salmon teriyaki and boneless wings also very good. Only let down was the camembert tempura. The strong flavour of Camembert along with sweet onions and tempura batter didn’t go together too well.
Would give this place 5 stars if it wasn’t for several staff reminding us of the requirement to give the table back for the next sitting, even though we ended up leaving earlier that required.
The tasting menu was excellent, but ordering a la carte you cannot miss the hamachi! The cauliflower dish was also amazing, and all the raw fish is great quality. Definitely recommend trying this place.
EDITED TO RESPOND TO HONJO’S COMMENT:
Horrible experience. Service staff pretentious and customer service flippant. We called to book 15 mins earlier, only to be seated and then told that we didn’t meet the “smart casual” dress code. At no point when we called were we told about the dress requirement, neither was it obvious from the contact us page on the website – if we had known, we wouldn’t have bothered coming. My husband was wearing a collared shirt and tailored shorts, whereas others were wearing sporting t-shirts which apparently did meet the dress code in that they weren’t expressly excluded? Talk about blind enforcement. Many better similar style restaurants out there in HK (including one just across the road) – give this one a miss!
We had great brunch at Honjo. Amazing appetizers and great selections of sushi, maki, and sashimi. We ordered tempura and flank steak as main course. Both were good, but go for the steak if you ask me. Dessert were ginger ice cream (top notch), matcha ice cream, banana cake, and chocolate cake.
HKD 468 + 198 (free flow). (No service charge, but they really really really deserve good tips for the amazing service).
Paul and his team was very professional and attentive at all times. We couldn’t get better service anywhere else. It was an amazing anniversary brunch for us. 😊
Thank you Honjo!
We tried the simple version of weekend brunch. I like the baby chicken and prawn rolls a lot. Wine choices are ample but the ones we chose are just ok…Anyway food is good enough for a visit
Really nice evening. The place is stunning.
The tasting menu will make you discover new flavor and you will eat more than enough.
Really good experience and the staff is top !
I will come back soon for sure !
Amazing food, amazing atmosphere, another fabulous restaurant from Pirata group. This modern Japanese restaurant definitely impresses!

Such a beautifully designed restaurant, that feels like you’ve entered an old world dining room. We tried a variety of menu items and found their sashimi to be fresh (flown in direct from Japan) and the prawn tempura was deliciously sweet. Their standout dishes were the boneless chicken wings and the slow cooked chicken & rice (so much depth of umami flavour!!!). We went twice during their opening month, and expected teething issues with service in a new establishment but wow, their staff were exceptional!
I also highly recommend trying one (or several) of their cocktails, which are refreshingly left of field, and not your typical sickly sweet types. The Honjo house brand sake is also a must-try and served in a traditional bowl-style carafe. Will definitely be back!!
What a surprising wow!
Cuisines and cocktails both nice!
Definitely will revisit.
Really nice place to enjoy with friends or dating. Nice vibes and good food. The United we dine menu was very good. Sushi is surprisingly yummy. Sake tasting is very nice. Def recommend:)
had lunch here – 5 of us. food was incredible. the tempura, flank steak, salmon an d chicken were superb. the sushi and the sushi rolls were out of this world.
the restaurant is huge and beautiful. fantastic decor. very expansive. you will very comfy in the seats. table are all spacious.
the service was superb. we were very well looked after by both Paul and Regian. They were proactive and attentive without being intrusive.
desert was delicious. I loved their interesting ice cream and red bean pudding.
will definitely return.
We tried this place for end of year gathering, which is a new Japanese resraurant opened by the Pirata group. If you want to try a nice Japanese fusion this can be a good place. They also have sashimi and sushi platters but we did not try since you can get these anywhere else.
Although a bit expensive the restaurant has a very memorable and impressive Italian American style interior design. Therefore the ambience you will get from the resraurant is quite special.
The price is steep. Every dish is for sharing and appetizers are easily over 150 hkd with small portion. The main dishes portion is pretty decent but still low value for money. The waitress recommended us to order 6 dishes for 2 people but we chose 5. I recommend to go with 5 dishes (1 starter, 2 small dishes, and 2 main dishes).
The Uni dish was very delicious and nothing you can try else where. Hamachi and Wagyu sashimi with Chorizo sauce was also tasty. I would say if you order tempura main, please do eat as fast as possible. When it gets cold, it is too soggy. I dont think I will order it next time.
Overall nice sevice suitable for special occassions. For casual dining purpose, the price won’t justify the quality.
Amazing food as well as the service!
Went here with my family for a nice Christmas dinner and we absolutely loved the overall experience, from the unique food and super attentive and friendly service. I highly recommend the Tempura and the boneless chicken wings! Thumbs up Honjo Team, keep up the excellent work!
Amazing food, best sushi I’ve had outside of Japan. Really nice staff, sake, and cool environment. Will come back!
What a wonderful dining experience! Every dish (and we had plenty) was delicious and spot-on. The recommended pairings of champagne, wine and sake turned dinner into an exciting journey. Big shout out to Dom who took excellent care of us 🙏 Service in general was flawless. Definitely going to come back! …
Excellent food. Stylish ambience. Nice staff. Love it. Definitely worth coming back to.
Not much of a first impression from the street but once the lift door opens, you are transported in a great atmosphere with some small corners and some large communal tables.
Service is top-notch and very classy.
Food came out superb. Probably the best chicken wings (forget what you know about chicken wings!) I ever ate. And some surprising dishes such as tempura camembert (seriously!).
A MUST in Hong Kong.
Quite possibly one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Great service and the COOLEST vibe and aesthetic. Thank you Honjo!
Good creative Japanese inspired dishes. The sweet corn was really good as was the beef tataki. Only thing I wasn’t a huge fan of was the rice used for sushi… It seemed a tad overcooked and mushy. Other than that, all the food was delicious! Also, happy hour is only in the bar area. There’s also a dress code – smart casual I think.
Sorry but this place is entirely a mirage- nothing authentic about it and certainly not avant garde Japanese. Food was overpriced and interiors a slick repeat borrowed from ubiquitous trendy hospitality. We ordered the medium sashimi ($760 for fish quality that was above average at best), the uni (inedible), and the Honjo tempura which was over-fried with thick batter. The only reason worth going is the comprehensive sake menu, hence 2 stars.
Fabulous dinner at Honjo last night. The spicy tuna with tobiko on a tempura shiso leaf, corn tempura with saffron strands, sticky pork ribs – all winners. Amazing sushi, too. The açai chocolate truffle with matcha ice cream dessert is a must-try. Japanese food in HK is usually criminally expensive for not a lot of food… Honjo has unbeatable foodie hits, service, style, ambience and value – all-in-one.
Had a great time for sure, big group of people for a good brunch. Definitely would go again, service was a bit slow but understandable due to COVID-19 situation. Well-worth for price.
Restaurant under the group of Pirata, Tasting menu is kind of fusion, western dishes much better than Japanese ones, the sashimi is of Genki quality only.
If there is a half star, I would rate it 2.5 meaning it is ok. I end up giving 2/5 because personally I value food more than deco when it comes to dining out, even for this case the demo and ambience are great. In addition, we have selected the restaurants after checking out the reviews and are definitely disappointed.
The restaurant was almost full when I was there during the weekend. Service was great when we speak to the ones in suit, presumably the managers. When we were served by the waitresses, theirs fingers touched the food almost every time. They also bumped into my chair when walking by.
For this weekend brunch price point, it is more about quantity than quality. If I crave for both quality and quantity, Zuma will be a better choice.
I suspected one of the three oysters that I have eaten isn’t really fresh. My stomach has started growling by the time dessert was served. 🤢
Still plenty of restaurants to try in Hong Hong and will not come back… 🙅🏼♀️
Damn good place! Original food and great service!
Service and food were outstanding. Michelle looked after us so attentively in a way that we could enjoy every single dish and have a great dining experience. Highly recommended.
Best service and great Japanese fusion food
Delicious! Really lovely. Even if you don’t like sushi, like me!
Outstanding in every way. Loved the food, atmosphere, and service all top notch!
Fantastic food. Fantastic atmosphere. Fantastic service. This place is worth it
Honjos past good service and fresh food left a really high impression, hence I suggested my team to dine here. However, this time the service was TRULY struggling. Understand we have a big group, but almost every request had to be asked 2-3x and we had to chase done the servers to finally get it after 20 mins (napkins, additional sake cup, cocktail requests, etc). There was one main server for 10 customers, leaving us hanging most of the evening. Food really did not live up to my past experience, we got the $1k set menu and there was nothing memorable about any of the dishes. Sea urchin was smelly, corn tempura was soggy, sushi and sashimi was really average, overall just not nearly as good as my past experience
Totally overhyped, we had the nigiri platter from the restaurant week menu. The sushi came in mini size with play-doh like wasabi. I expected a lot more than that considering the price is not exactly cheap.
Very delighted with their consideration for a special occasion as well as good food.
Tried their restaurant week menu over the weekend. Great service and good ambience. the food was good overall.
Good ambiance, good food, nice staff
They served champagne that was opened yesterday hence no bubbles anymore!
We came for brunch and celebrated a friend’s birthday. Atmosphere was good and food was tasty. Service was friendly but very slow, sadly. Drinks took forever to get. The waiter let us know that if we wanted anything else from the ”sushi counter”, just to let him know. However, when asking for more oysters a short while later, they let us know they couldn’t provide more cause they needed to save them for the customers later in the evening. Would not go back for the brunch.
Honjo’s new menu includes Mushroom and Corn tempura as well as pork belly, and boasts a wide variety of sushi and mains!
The steak was excellent as the last time I had dined, and the Fried Chicken wings are amazing as always!
Great food, sushi was mediocre.
