We chose The Dreamer set menu ($680 per person), which included a range of creative and tasty dishes:
– Hamachi – Radish/Watermelon with Sashimi. Mind blown by this combination and loved the citrusy ponzu sauce, which brought out the freshness of each element.
– Kani Salad: Mix of king and snow crabs (our favourite). Again citrusy and fresh starter to the meal.
– East Meets West: Beef tartare with fermented rice. Admittedly we wanted an encore on this dish.
– Chicken Wings: Yakitori style sauce with a sweet and spicy twist.
– Sashimi and sushi: Super fresh selection of seafood!
– Zucchini Flower Tempura: Never had this before. A little bit bitter, but tasted great with the tempura sauce.
– Striploin: Medium rare, mushroom purée.
– Lemongrass Granita: by the time this was served, we were quite full, but the freshness of the lemongrass made this a light dessert.
– North to South: Prepared at the table by the waiter. Super creamy hokkaido milk ice cream over a citrusy japanese fruit.
Atmosphere was quite romantic and the tables weren’t full due to the fact we were the first seating and there were covid restrictions. The staff were quite friendly. The restaurant is pricey but rightly so as the level of detail and amount of thought put into each dish was far greater than your typical restaurant. We chose not to get the wine/sake pairing and just ordered a cocktail each.
Honjo’s new menu is quite the thrill ride:
The mushroom and corn tempura were a delicious and crackley addition, and the pork belly with apple puree was an interesting combination that worked very well together.
The fried chicken wings are and were (consistently and unfairly) my favourite part of the honjo menus- the okinawa brown sugar sauce really elevates it! The wagyu carpaccio was very tasty as last time, with a nice tang from the chirizo oil.
My dining patrons loved the sushi and sashimi, but whilst I was not able to enjoy due to an allergy, the honjo team provided a unique alternative of vegetarian sushi, which included radish sushi (a first for me!) and avocado sushi!
The steak was cooked quite nicely and was presented quite specially.
The matcha lava cake was excellent, possibly a bit less sweet than last time which I’m unsure whether was good because it seemed healthier or bad because I was unable to indulge in sugary tendencies. In the end I decided that I was too full to care and was satisfied either way 🙂
Special shoutout to Lynn, as well as Paul!
2stars are for the great service and environment. I paid around $1000 for lunch (2 persons) and I got a chewy angus beef cube which costs me $500 and I couldn’t swallow any single one of it.
Tho the food display is fine, but the food is horrible
Staff very nice, but the whole experience wasnt worth $1000 for a lunch
This is our second visit to Honjo. As a huge fan of Pirata Group, we felt like the food last time was only average, but we want to give it a second try and see if the food got any better.
We went for the “Dunch” menu (HKD298 p.p.) and added the free-flow (+HKD180 p.p.) and sushi counter (+HKD98 p.p.). While we loved the concept of “Dunch” – a late lunch from 2:30 to 5:30pm, the food was just average and uninspiring. The starters were okay, but the wagyu tataki was way too oily and tasteless. The sushi and sashimi did not taste fresh. We also got 2 small oysters, but again they did not taste creamy and fresh. For the main course, we ordered the naked chicken and tempura which were also just so-so.
Again, the concept of “Dunch” was nice, but both of our experiences were below average – the food did not feel authentic and “wow”. Unfortunately, Honjo is probably our least favourite restaurant in the Pirata Group.
Very enjoyable brunch. Great service, good quality food. Unlimited sushi boat!
Tried their restaurant weeks menu
Can give a try. The quality is standard.
It would be nice if they can let you pick wagyu or cauliflower, rather force you to pick wagyu and cauliflower.
Under the management of Pirata group, Honjo’s standard definitely is on par with other restaurants under the group. With covid 19, Honjo offers both brunch and dunch (dinner + brunch) since hk regulation only allowed dine before 6pm. Starters were great, the main wagyu steak was done exactly how I wanted it, the tenderness of medium rare was amazing. Those the teriyaki salmon was a sligtly over cooked but everything else compensated for it. Looking forward for my next brunch.
Came during Restaurant Week and was positively surprised by the crew – service was warm and professional, and we were offered free drinks! Tempura, salmon and dessert were all very good.
Warm welcome and drinks in the cocktail bar started off our evening. A late booking and our friends were running late. I ordered a bottle of South African chenin, whilst my partner enjoyed a beautiful shiso, basil and yuzu flavoured vodka sour. All 4 of us chose “the traveller” set for dinner. Along the way we tasted traditional and fusion Japanese cuisine. We added on some otoro and maitake, although the set was enough……. Textures, flavours and presentation were all fantastic. Wine glasses always topped up and friendly banter from the staff, in a packed venue! Another win for the Pirata group. We had an excellent night. Thanks to Paul the manager and the team for a wonderful dining experience!
I can’t believe how nice people here are with their reviews. I simply wouldn’t rate this place more than a 3 star given how much they charge for mediocre sushi and dishes. The ambiance was nice but didn’t make up for the average tasting food. Services were terrible too. Wouldn’t recommend it. Pirate Group has better restaurants under their name. This one is definitely a disappointment. ( I didn’t even bother taking any photos because simply wasn’t worth my time and effort)
Honjo is known for their semi befft brunch where you choose you own main course and free flow on all sides including selections of sushi, sashimi, and other cooked food. The restaurant has a nice ambient and can seat comfortably for party of all sizes. Stuff are friendly. Personally, I like honjo’s menu selection better than Zuma which the two are often compared. Honjo has better value for money as well. The free flow alcohol package is optional but it has an amazing variety of choice anything from sake to bubbles for a reasonable price. Don’t miss this gem if you are into good food and good vibes.
Lovely dinner with very nice staff nice environment
And this CHESSE CAKE is sooooooooo delicious<3
Highly recommend to all the dessert lover
Unfortunately I can’t recommend this place. Went for the lunch set paid 630+ tip for two people, super slow service considering it was a Monday and operating at half capacity. They got the dessert order wrong and instead of fruit and matcha lava they have two matcha lavas which you had to pay extra for. It took two hours to have lunch the service was as that slow.
Super friendly service staffs and the food was tasty. Generally a great atmosphere for a date. Would definitely recommend it to friends.
In love with the lunch menu at Honjo. Flavourful, tasty but not too heavy. Whenever I am in Sheung Wan I try to stop by this restaurant.
Went there on a Saturday evening. Stylish place, very friendly staff and a cool atmosphere. We had the Traveller menu with Wine & Sake pairing which was terrific both in terms of taste and variety.
Very disappointing. Brought my wife for brunch for mothers day, first waiters served me before my wife, I was a bit shocked because this is the basics in terms of food etiquette. Then they bring you very cheap food but I have to say with a nice presentation, you really feel everything is calculated to the dime (not the first time I feel that in Pirata group, probably why they do so good though).
Then they served us oyster that were not fresh and taste rotten (and it was not only one but the whole batch.)
And to top it off they bring us an assorted dessert platter that look very nice with fruits and deserts. I take my first bit in a lemon pie with lots of cream and very little curd and what I get is an horrible taste of Magarine and not butter…SOOO CHEAP!
壽司很一般,但電鍍很好。迫不及待想有一天嘗試他們的自由流動早午餐。服務有點慢。我從來沒有不耐煩或錯誤
We visited for Sunday brunch to celebrate our anniversary. This was a much better experience than we expected! The food was delicious and the service was extraordinary.
A very cozy and comfortable restaurant. The brunch menu is simply fantastic. We had the teriyaki salmon and the baked chicken as mains, both great.
From the appetisers we liked the spinach in sesame sauce the best. Overall, the food was very flavourful, with a nice balance of savory and spicy.
We even enjoyed the dessert even though it was a bit too much sugar for us.
Very tasty fusion Japanese cuisine!
Decent brunch, great staff too. (tall South African man couldn’t have been more friendly and welcoming, makes for a great experience for a friends birthday) . Very enjoyable. Thanks very much .
Nice brunch. Typical Pirata brunch with unlimited sushi and oysters (that was the best part). Mains were alright- nothing to write home about. The overall experience was terrific— and the restaurant gave us our drinks on the house simply because our table wasn’t ready when we arrived. That was really nice of them!
Was here for the frunch with free flow for 2 hours and it was fantastic. Great service, food came quite fast but not too fast where we had too much food at the table. The flute was never empty and food tasted great.
Good food, great service & friendly staff. I simply love all the dishes. Had an enjoyable night with friends 🙂
Have heard of good reviews so decided to try out their Restaurant Week menu. Good atmosphere and attentive staff. Dishes were delicious. The only disappointment was the Wagyu striploin was very ordinary steak (not Wagyu) and a bit chewy. The Matcha lava was an absolute delight to end the meal.
Beautiful chic restaurant serves great delicious foods which everyone of us are impressed and happy.
Good food but “party” atmosphere/environment
Gorgeous fit out with delicious food and fabulous service. This is probably the nicest ambiance of all the pirata restaurants. The food was an interesting, fun and funk take in Japanese food.
Highly recommended brunch. The decor is super cool. The food is tasty. The people are pretty. What’s not to like
Great sushi and brunch! So delicious!
Came here at dinner time for Restaurant Week and had an amazing time. The food was fantastic, especially the hamachi starter, the wagyu steak main and the matcha lava tea dessert. Great environment and friendly service from staff as well! Overall great vibe!
Beautiful restaurant with friendly service. The fried chicken was delicious! Came with a side of miso soup, edamame fried rice. The soup was your average miso but the fried rice was more on the clumpy/soggy end, would prefer if the rice didn’t stick together so much. The steak was cooked to medium, the way I liked it (though waitress didn’t ask) which was not bad but was a tiny bit chewy. The dessert was good. Overall a nice experience and very full. Thank you!
Went here for a date night, and it was decent. Atmosphere was nice, and staff were very polite and attentive. They seemed a bit busy, but efficient and nothing much to complain about.
Food was alright – the uni toast was decent, but the uni was overwhelmed by other things on the dish. Something simpler would’ve been better. Sushi was decent, and brocollini was alright. TBH, there wasn’t anything that was a stand out in terms of food, but service and atmosphere was good and made up for it. Not sure if I’d come again for the food itself. Drinks on other hand, were pretty good.
Amazing food, amazing boose, amazing interior. Great option for brunch. Been here fore dinner as well, they were great. When they are a bit busier during dinner time, they might get the orders wrong, but still a great experience overall. Highly recommend.
Entering Honjo is like walking into a wonderland. Next to TMK, the entrance to Honjo appeared to be small. After taking a lift to first floor, you will walk into a massive restaurant which radiates a nice scent with a nice interior design.
The Restaurant Week deal is quite nice, for HKD$398, you get to enjoy all these Japanese dishes. The dinner was kicked start with five small dishes.
The steamed edamame was seasoned with sea salt. Ordinary yet enjoyable.
I love these boneless chicken wings so much! Seasoned with Okinawa black sugar, garlic and fresh chili, they were really enjoyable. Not your ordinary Japanese fried chicken.
The hamachi was really fresh, topped up with ikura (salmon roes), watermelon radish and ginger ponzu, it’s a really refreshing dish.
The texture of these wagyu pieces were interesting because of the crispy quinoa, giving them a rather crunchy sensation. Seasoned with chorizo oil, asahi tosazu and chives, the wagyu pieces had splendid flavors.
Among the five small dishes, I like these salmon tapioca puff most. Wrapped inside this crunchy rice puff were salmon, rice, yuzu-koshu and purple shiso. So enjoyable and delicious indeed!
The Sushi & Sashimi Platter were a bit ordinary, yet fresh and yummy. Just not as surprising as the salmon tapioca puff.
There were two mains. First one was this Cauliflower with black truffle, passion fruit butter sauce, capers, and almond pieces. The superb dressing made the cauliflower a grand dish. Yum yum!
The other main was this Australian BMS 3 Wagyu Striploin with Asian chimmichurri. The striploin was nicely grilled. But what topped up the whole dish was definitely the seasoning powder on the side.
My friend and I ordered one each of the dessert to share, so that we got to try both. The Yuzu & Umeboshi Curd was a bit ordinary. We adored the Matcha Lava more, especially the aromatic soba cracker on top. The matcha lava also made great ice cream dressing.
Worth visiting Honjo for a nice weekend dinner with friends.
What a great evening!
Throughly enjoyed the Dreamer Menu with lots a variety in the dishes. Thank you to the staff for their great hospitality!
What an amazing dinner! Food was exquisite and service impeccable from our server, Michelle. The new menu was really a pleasant surprise, highly recommended.
Went here for the restaurant week lunch set plus celebrating our birthdays, and was a bit let down by the food. The service and the ambience was nice.
We ordered the wings and salmon puff, nigiri sushi (with additional 88 hkd), and flank steak, yuzu ice cream and matcha float.
The appetisers were alright although we didn’t quite enjoy the puff, it was such a nice idea, but when u eat it, it’s just full of mushy rice and the balance is way off compared to the salmon and mayo?
The wings are okay.. the desserts were great, we really enjoyed it.
We were super let down by the nigiri sushi that we even paid extra for, I would say even genki sushi taste better.
The flank steak is a bit tough and bland, tho they served it with additional cooking salt (a more refined salt compared to coarse salt, which I think tasted way saltier, since it’s easier to dissolve, but this is my personal liking).
Overall, I didn’t quite enjoy the food, but the ambience and service were alright. Not sure if I’ll go again.
Came here to celebrate Buddha’s birthday and had the brunch menu with free flow champagne option. The starters are all really really tasty. The tomato and spinach dishes a highlight for me. The sashimi platter is great. Salmon, yellowtail and tuna with oysters. For the mains we had two kinds of steak and cauliflower. For me the last was disappointing, but the people who actually ordered it liked it. The champagne was good, the sake option not to my taste. Staff were very friendly and engaged with us and kids, the deco and atmosphere is also very chilled and relaxing. I think it was 2/3 full.
Food and service was amazing!! The decor and ambience is lovely. Squids were cold and soggy! Portions are small so end up ordering a lot of food. But the wine and sake was excellent!
Toilet doors didn’t lock properly, flush didn’t work.
Thank you Reagan & Dominic for your hospitality! Best Sashimi Platter I had in a long time – thank you for accommodating our request to deep fry the prawn heads! Still by far, the best Tempura in town. Beautifully lightly deep fried and the salt condiments always complements the dish so well. Thank you Chef Stephane for letting us try your new Pork Belly dish, amazing!
The ambience and the foods are amazing! Except the boston lobster was a bit tastless which we are quite disappointed given to add $298 to have it. The matcha lava cake is definitely a highlight of the day! It was so fantastic! Last but not least, I would like to give a compliment to all the staff here, the managers and especially the lady who served us for the whole dining experience. Thank you very much for your excellent hospitality!
Came for a Friday brunch. This includes freeflow but bizarrely only alcohol – the non alcoholic option is tepid tap water. Our waitress was rather blunt – “what do you want?” – but after speaking to another staff member managed to secure sparkling water! This was appreciated. The food was good quality and good value for money. I had the veggie set of corn starter (the carrot was not available), udon main, and cheesecake dessert. The starter and dessert were delicious. The vegetable tempura part of the main was also delicious but the udon and broth was just bland and heavy so I left this. The restaurant has a good atmosphere and I would return, but definitely recommend that they expand their freeflow option to include at least sparkling water as an AF choice.
It is a three star, but i had to put down one. Because currently 4.5 star is falsely representing. The food quality is very average. I expected more if i am paying that price. You can easily find somewhere with a better food quality paying that price. And the wine they offer there is just meh. I would not go there another time.
The first time was amazing. Great portion amazing tastes.
But the second time was HORRIBLE.
We book the table and still have to wait after our booked time. While we are waiting, they got complain from people saying we sit too close to them and asked us to move.
And when we ordered the food. It came very slow.
I asked for a slice of lemon and they gave me a slice with at least 15 seeds on it lol. Meanwhile in the bathroom no clean towel were available.
We still paid extra tips even tho it was really bad. Best advice is just don’t come during peak hours.
A happy night with attentive service. We enjoyed most of the dishes (except the sashimi with some bones) and the ambience.
Had brunch there with friends. Nice ambience but it can get pretty noisy if the place is full. Food was hit and miss. Hot food was acceptable and sashimi/sushi were chain restaurant standard. Service was not perfect but the team made an effort despite the busy flow.
