Food so-so. A bit under-average. Wine by glass was unreasonably priced. For service, staff was under-trained. Ambient music was too loud.
Not recommended.
The food is amazing with reasonable price. Enjoy every single dish and will definitely return for more!!!
Booked the early 6pm seating on a Sunday. We were told upon checking in that the restaurant needed the table back by 8pm, which was no problem. However, the overall experience was not enjoyable as we felt incredibly rushed by the wait staff throughout our dinner. Food came very quickly and the server would stand at our table and watch us finish the last bites of our dishes so that she could take the plates away. At 7:15pm before one of our diners could finish the last bite on his plate, the server abruptly presented us with the desert menu. At 7:55pm, table already cleared, and as we were clearly getting ready to leave the server told us she really needed the table back. I felt so pressured to eat quickly that iI ended up with a horrible stomach ache at the end of the meal! Not the experience one would hope for after spending a few grand on the bill.
🥖Sourdough Bread
🥚Oeuf mayo – Organic egg, mayonnaise, fresh herbs
🥣Cold zucchini soup – Romana ricotta cheese, extra oliver oil
🦆Cuisse de canard – Confit duck leg, Ratte potato, fruit of season (+$60)
🐑Les Côtes d’agneau – Grilled lamb rack, eggplant puree (+$60)
🍨Crèam brûlée fruit de la passion (+$48)
💰Set lunch $228 starter + Main dish
🎈 Bouillon
Authentic French flavours and generous potions. Love the bone marrow, and the special menu offers some unique dishes (e.g. Sweatbread — quite rare to find even in Western cuisine restaurants in HK). Cozy ambience with classy, tasteful decor; the wine options are vast.
Overall a great experience, but slightly pricey for a brasserie. Would surely recommend to those who miss France.
Disappointing going to Bouillon, for the below reasons:
– tables are very cramped together even during the current covid restriction, the next table was less than 50cm away from our table
– Food generally is okay but very salty
– only dinner menu is offered even during lunch hours and no specific lunch set menu, even on non-public holidays
Apart from the above, service was average but not bad. Also I noticed the music is not as loud as before anymore.
Overall, I would not recommend Bouillon to friends but rather choose alternative casual French dining restaurants in Sheung Wan.
Very good bistro food with superb service
Good French cuisine with wide selection of fine wines.
High quality wholesome authentic French bistro food
Great little neighbourhood restaurant reminiscent of a Parisian bistro. Well price wines, good French inspired food and decent service which is sometimes hard to come by in Hong Kong. The passionfruit creme brulee was delightful!
Nice food. Cozy. Nice decor. Doesn’t serve tap water.
This is one of the few restaurants, where each and every dish we ordered was a true winner. Will definitely come again
Food was excellent and some lovely wines by the glass. Lighting is far too bright and it sounded like they were playing music on someone’s laptop speakers. Mirrors on the ceiling were an odd touch for a French bistro. Anyway I digress, get the tartare.
This is my third visit in two years but things got worse now. Used to like this place, but now it’s just different. Terrible service with frozen cold tarter. Too pricey for this lousy and awful experience.
What an experience!
The place is trendy but not posh. Each traditional French dish that we ordered had a unique twist that enhanced the initial recipe.
If you’re a bit lost with the menu ask Gregory to guide you through this culinary experience.
Great food, wonderful evening
Absolutely overrated with rushed service and mediocre food.
We booked the table for 6-8pm and the French manager started to rush us and other tables to order from 6.20. When we told him we were not ready he “friendly” reminded us that he needed the table back by 8. Dishes were served unpleasantly fast as they served the mains before we could finish our entrées. And the minute we finished our food they slapped the bill on the table without us asking. I looked at the clock. It was 7.10.
In terms of food, the entrées were enjoyable as all the pictures posted by reviewers. But the mains were mediocre with a lack of finesse. The $128 roasted vegetables side dish was a bowl of overcooked mushy vegetables without much seasonings. It would make a decent dish at home but it’s not up to restaurant quality. The duck confit was on the dry side and overly salty. The sauce for the potatoes was thick like porridge.
And as many other reviewers have mentioned, they don’t serve tap water “for environmental reasons”. I’m guessing they catch water from the stream and carry it back to soho?
Overall pricy for the quality. Not coming back again.
Excellent food, including many classic and more rustic dishes. The beef tartare was a standout, as well as the veal’s head and girole mushrooms specials.
I’ve been wanting to secure a presentable quaint little french bistro with good food for hanging out. I think I’ve found the place.
Love the vibe. Tables were a bit small but cosy.
We ordered beef tartare, foie gras, seared scallop with truffles, fries and escargot. I didn’t used to like French food but I think I am starting to enjoy it.
I found that the entire experience was better than our visit at Jean May. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and vibe. Don’t come in a big party, any more than 2-3 would be too crowded.
very nice little French bistro. some of the dishes we ordered were drowning in butter
Highly recommended!
Been a fan of chef Johan even before Bouillon, glad he started his adventure with chef Gregory in BBP. The food is exceptional as always in the cozy French bistro, nice wine/ bubbles selection to pair with the dishes. Do not leave the restaurant without trying the passion fruit crème brûlée.
Nice little French restaurant in the neighborhood. Steak and veal carpaccio with scallops are amazing.
Overall I can’t recommend this restaurant.
Comments on food and drinks:
1. The wine options were exorbitant, and the white wine I ordered wasn’t even chilled.
2. Filtered water shouldn’t be sold as at a high price. If I were paying for still/sparkling water, I would expect branded options.
3. The flavour or beef tartare was quite blend.
4. The sauces were good across multiple dishes.
Comments on ambience and service:
1. The speakers were so loud that everyone couldn’t hear one another. So noisy that it tensed everybody up. There are better options than rap songs in a bistro.
2. The waitresses could have been better trained. Condiments were missing and the waitress didn’t help organise the plates when our dish arrived.
4stars for food and 2.5stars for service recommended for foodies. Good value $$$
Must try the truffle mac
Used to enjoy this place. Used to have great food great service. Up a notch or as good as Winebeast.
Recent visit is quite upset. Pate, Tartar frozen cold. Sardines with Onion tart. Onion and sauce were so salty by whatever standard. Tenderloin with black pepper sauce dish is barely warm and so is the beef. Not sure what beef it is but its roughly 4oz to 5oz of meat for 338 dollars. Not expensive at all for the material in other restaurant but not here with this service and preparation.
Yes its covid lockdown and I was there to support, early dinner at 4:15. One waitress serving 4 tables. One bar/kitchen staff.
I like Winebeast and this place and want to support the business but I was expecting adequate level of service and quality. Very sad to see this going downhill like this.
Only took photos of two dishes. Enough and probably will not be back again anytime soon.
This bistro was surprisingly good – inexpensive, a wide variety of menu choices, tasty, and lots of wine to choose from.
The appetizers were fresh (oysters) and well-seasoned (escargots), the beef tartare was reminiscent of the ones I’ve had in Europe and US (which was great), risotto was well cooked and creamy, and the fish definitely took us by surprise.
A bit cramped but that’s nothing compared to the amazing food
The restaurant was packed and had 2 sittings for Sunday lunch. Starters of Egg Mayo, Escargot, and beef tartar were ok and arrived quickly. Main courses were a little hit and miss. The Beef Rossini was well cooked but the John Dory fillet was tough with chewy skin. The confit duck leg was not moist and lacked the crispy skin that I was expecting. it wasn’t long before we needed to leave and allow the crowd of people waiting outside to have their lunch. overall the experience and the price didn’t quite match up.
A French bistro @ Sheung Wan, great selection of wine, nice food and good service. Passion fruit creme brûlée originally come in 3 pieces, we told the server we are celebrating our friend’s b’day, they nicely made 1 more for 4 of us and it taste so good.
Very cozy French bistro which offers very good cuisines. The price is at a very reasonable range for French dishes. The lamb fillets and duck confit are very good.
The chocolate mouse is strong with dark choco, excellent meal finisher.
On a whole, a very satisfying and leisure lunch gathering. Thanks
Came to lunch a good surprise. Authentic French cuisine.
Definitely will come back
Great french food in the city, the food is at high standard while environment is is cozy. However the dinner slot is only 2 hours per table, it is a bit rush to enjoy everything.
Birthday treat on the house.
Nice France foods
I chose the starter duck foie gras, it should be the semi-cooked foie gras. The portion is too big, I think half size should be enough for me. The drink of glass wine is good the price is reasonable (HK$68). The main course confit duck leg is also too big for me, the side dishes of the main course are tasty. The breads are wonderful. The lunch set price is HK$228 but add HK$80 for foi gras and add HK$60 for duck leg as the end we need to pay nearly HK$500 for each person. I will taste other food for next visit.
Responsive staff, ordinary food, cozy ambient and relative expensive menu.
Quite French style bistro
Small and cozy, wine selections not bad as well
Normally not a fan of snails, but here you can find it in rich balance
traditional French Food !
amazing food and friendly staff ! 😋 …
My boyfriend and I used to be frequent customers of Bouillon because we loved although the service was sometimes questionable.
I went to the restaurant on my own recently and as usual I ordered a glass of champagne to enjoy and relax before I ordered my mea. I took a sip of the champagne and it tasted flat and I told the waitress who poured the champagne immediately, about it. Her reaction was nonchalant and advised me to order sparkling wine instead. I was reluctant and suggested if she could open a new bottle of champagne. She consulted the manager/owner and to my surprise the manager refused and also suggested I ordered sparkling! I was really disappointed with the service and attitude especially when I was the regular customer and having had some friendly conversations with both owners, mean nothing to them. And why would a French restaurant serve flat champagne?! Oh Mon Dieu!
I left the restaurant hungry and disappointed.
Cheers to no champagne wishes !
5 star food, 3 star service. 4 stars average.
Good taste with reasonable portion
food is good, but need to book for over two week.
We enjoyed there, finally a French fine Parisian Brasserie in HK. Superbe ! Very fresh, Yummy, great service and an excellent selection of wine (Biodynamic selection recommended !) ! Thank you Gregory for your Wamr Welcome ! See you soon
Salty food, terrible service. Won’t be coming again.
small shop and friendly staff, food was good, wine can be ordered by the glass, nice little paris experience
We really enjoyed this place. We sat in the back and had some peace and quiet for our business lunch. The food menu is a little limited, but the quality of the food is good. The service could have been a tad more attentive, but staff were very friendly. The asparagus were served cold, which may be a French thing, I don’t know, but I am used to them being warm. Otherwise a good place to have lunch.

Thank you so much for the take away that I had last night. It was a really delicious couscous one of the best I ever had in Hong Kong. wish you the best!
Authentic and cosy vibe, unusual but excellent tartare of veal(topped with scallop) and really tasty duck confit and iberico pluma (neck cut). Pretty good! 😋 …
